Caulfield Heath will host midweek thoroughbred racing in Melbourne this week with the first race at 3:05pm (AEDT). After a few weeks of Dry conditions, Caulfield copped a bit of rain earlier in the week but a Good 4 track is still expected. The three-year-old sprinters start us off with quite a few of them being first starters. I have left that race alone but have chosen three key bets later in the program. Good luck to everyone following along!

Caulfield Heath Racing Tips: Wednesday, March 4th 2026
Race 2: Carrie Hu 2026 Lady of Racing Finalist 1800m - 3:40pm (AEDT)
(4) Phoebe Buffay was favourite last start when 2nd but beaten less than a length and I think she can turn that around in a race where there are only five other rivals. MIchael Dee settled her 4th last time and she plugged away pretty well, while the start prior he won with her when at Seymour. She is stepping up in distance again but the Payne stable knows early on if they can manage it or not. Holly Durnan is on and gets a 3kg claim.
(3) Mr Independent broke his maiden with a close-fought victory at Pakenham last start. That was his second run over the mile so it does look like he is ready for the extra 200m.
(5) Just Jenni broke her maiden in the winter and her last three starts have seen her on average 3L off the winter. In a small field she will want to finish closer this time if she doesn’t win. Declan Bates rides for the first time.
(4) Phoebe Buffay WIN
$3.50 (2 units)
Race 3: Natashia Radford 2026 Lady Of Racing Finalist 1200m - 4:15pm (AEDT)
(1) Torsheen won well at Sale in January and has been close up her last couple too. Last start at this track she led and found one better but she has proven before she likes this distance. Barrier 1 will allow her to lead again or position up nicely behind the early leader. Very fit and can win again this prep.
(3) Sussex Duchess has been very consistent this prep but did fail at her only run at this track. She has had a good 12 months and has only missed once over the 1200m.
(2) Shaime won’t mind if the track gets to Soft and this being her fourth run since a spell, she should improve. She has ability but she has had a poor 12 months.
(1) Torsheen WIN
$2.40 (3 units)
Race 4: Sportsbet Up & Coming Stars Series 1200m - 4:50pm (AEDT)
(4) Melian drew inside and had Craig Williams on when debuting at Cranbourne (2nd) and WIllow sticks him. The Anthony & Sam Freedman trained gelding remains at 1200m but from a wider gate in 8 I think he may try and settle in the “one one” in this race and get cover. The Street Boss gelding won his jumpout leading up to his debut and the experience would have helped him.
(1) Genomic is on debut and did win a Cranbourne jumpout two weeks ago. Robbie Griffiths trained who has Luke Currie on and he has ridden him before. Backed $6.00 into $4.80 as soon as markets opened.
(7) Santana made his debut at Flemington last winter (8th) and hasn’t raced since. He got back on that occasion and I think he will be hitting the line hard in his first up assignment after three fair jumpouts of recent times.
(4) Melian WIN
$4.40 (1 unit)
