Geelong will host midweek racing as its annual Kid’s Day Out theme attracts a different style of punters on course. Race one of seven starts at 3:40pm (AEDT) and the maidens kick things off over 1100m. The track will be Good and may favour on pace horses and quick times could be the norm throughout the day. Our three best bets of the program are below!

Geelong Racing Tips: Wednesday, January 14th 2025
Race 6: Steampocket Handicap 1112m - 6:30pm (AEDT)
(2) Mr Assertive can lead all of the way from barrier 8 and tried to do just that last start at Flemington in a harder race, but faltered to finish 7th. The five year old gelding has only missed a top 3 finish in eight attempts on Dry ground and he gets that again. He carried 61.5kg to win at Wangaratta back in October and he is always in the top 3 as the whips are cracking at the 200m. He will give you a run for your money anyway.
(4) Hughie will go forward again after running 2nd at Terang on January 2 and before that he won an easy race at Nhill when he led and held on to win. Has placed at Geelong before. Sage Courtney Duric rides after getting a win on Sunday.
(6) Lapland is consistent and is 1 from 1 on the Good.Settled handy for Brad Rawiller last start when winning but Brad has chosen to ride our on top selection in this race.
(2) Mr Assertive WIN
$4.40 (1 unit)
Race 7: Rex Gorell Handicap 1312m - 7pm (AEDT)
(8) Godtfred Kirk is first up and hasn’t won first up before but did run well in some tough races at The Valley before he was turned out. On August 13 he won well at Lakeside after coming from midfield and Jamie Mott has already won on top. The Anthony&Sam Freedman stable is in form and he has trialled up fairly well.
(7) Tarzing won on debut at Seymour after running on very well. He was big odds that day which suggest the Waller stable didn’t expect the win, but he will likely get back and run on well again. Melbourne Cup winning trainer and jockey combine.
(4) Attain has run on fairly from well back his last couple but may get too far back here if the track is leaderish. Third up and fitter here and has already won over this distance before.
(8) Godtfred Kirk WIN
$4.60 (1 unit)
Race 8: Megajumps Handicap 1512m - 7:30pm (AEDT)
(5) Ekanite has won at this track previously and despite running 11th last start he was only beaten 2.7L. Before that he had three lead up jumpouts and though he didn’t set the world alight, the fitness gained there should hold him in good order for this race. It’s fair to say that this horse isn’t in the top half of runners in the Waller stable but he did show promise when leading all of the way at Geelong. Lead again maybe? In an open race I’m having a throw at the stumps on the $16.00 shot.
(2) El James has drawn a bit wide in 10 but he goes well for Thomas Stockdale and he goes well fresh. Is first up after a 6 month spell but he did show talent as a younger horse.
(1) Lethal Thoughts is an experienced six year old who has just missed the frame his last four runs. He is hard fit but he hasn’t won in a very long time.
(5) Ekanite Each-Way
$16/$4.50 (0.50 Units)
