Denver Nuggets at Oklahoma City Thunder (5:30am AEST)
Series Score: Tied 3-3
It all comes down to this, a single must-win Game 7 for the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder and the fourth-seeded Denver Nuggets. Prior to the series commencing, this looked like the most intriguing contest between two excellent teams in the Western Conference, and it has certainly delivered.
The opening game set the tone for the series with the Nuggets winning 121-119 before a blowout that saw the Thunder claim victory 149-106. Most of the games in the series have been up for grabs throughout, excluding that Game 2 anomaly, which makes this Game 7 a must-watch contest for NBA fans.
Both the Thunder and Nuggets are shooting 45.0% from the field in the 2024-25 Playoffs, but when it comes to three pointers, the Nuggets are making 35.9% of their shots compared to the Thunder who are shooting 32.1% from deep, making them the third-worst team in the Playoffs to date, and the worst of the teams that made it to the second round.
Taking care of the ball however has been a strength for the Thunder this postseason, committing just 11 turnovers per game (best in the Playoffs) compared to the Nuggets who are committing 15.2 turnovers per game. This comes as no surprise with the Thunder boasting several elite defensive players such as Lu Dort, Alex Caruso and Jalen Williams.
Turning our attention to the Nuggets, their three-time MVP, Nikola Jokic, is carrying the team, with incredible performances in Games 5 and 6. “Joker” had a mammoth 44-15-5 game in a losing effort in Game 5 before finishing with 29-14-8 in Game 6, when taking just 14 shot attempts (9-14 from the field), and only committing one turnover. He will need to be brilliant again in Game 7 but needs help from his number two Jamal Murray. Granted, Murray has played well in back-to-back games with 28 and 25 points respectively.
Athletic forward Aaron Gordon has been crucial at key times in the series and the Nuggets will need his best if he is able to suit up. He is questionable with a hamstring strain though. Russell Westbrook (hand) and Murray (illness) are both listed as game-time decisions, but you would expect both are going to play with the season on the line.
The Thunder, led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, have home court advantage for this important game and the consensus pick for this season’s MVP award is going to show up and deliver as he always does. He has dropped 31 and 32 points in his past two games and has been finding his teammates when the time has come for their number to be called. Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams will both need to contribute alongside SGA for the Thunder to advance, and I am predicting Williams to have a bounce back game after a forgettable 3-16 shooting night (six points) in the previous game. He can show up on both ends of the floor to help the Thunder advance to the Western Conference Finals against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Leg 1: Thunder H2H – Backing the Thunder to win at the line, so we will play it safer with our SGM and take them to win H2H.
Leg 2: Jalen Williams Over 17.5 points – Expecting a bounce back game from Williams who is averaging 21.6 points per game this season.
Leg 3: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Over 28.5 points – Thunder superstar who has won the 2024-25 scoring title with 32.7 points per game. He will be aggressive in this Game 7 contest.
Leg 4: Nikola Jokic Over 6.5 assists – Jokic has only had more than 6.5 assists in one game this series but expect him to find teammates because he simply cannot win being a one-man team in this game.
