Karolina Muchova vs Linda Noskova (Sunday 1am AEST)
For the first time since the Williams sisters battled it out in 2009, we've got two players from the same nation going head-to-head for the Wimbledon title. It's an all-Czech showdown on Centre Court, with 10th seed Karolina Muchova taking on 9th seed Linda Noskova. It adds a fun dynamic to the match, especially considering these two actually played doubles together at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Muchova has survived a brutal path to reach her second Grand Slam final. The 29-year-old had to knock off three major champions on the bounce. After taking care of Barbora Krejcikova and Naomi Osaka, she managed to outlast Coco Gauff in a wild semi-final, sneaking through a super tiebreak to win 6-2, 1-6, 7-6(10). She’s got a game built perfectly for grass – a wicked slice, great hands at the net, and plenty of tactical smarts.
On the flip side, 21-year-old Noskova is stepping up for her first-ever major final. She's been in scary form over the fortnight, barely breaking a sweat in straight-sets wins over 25th seed Elise Mertens and 12th seed Marta Kostyuk in the quarters and semis. Noskova's serve has been heavily reliable, and her flat, aggressive baseline hitting is doing massive damage on this surface.
Muchova does hold the head-to-head advantage after a three-set win at last year's US Open, but grass changes the equation entirely. Noskova has looked dominant throughout the entire grass swing, backing up her title run at the Berlin Open. Muchova will undoubtedly try to break up the play and drag her opponent into tricky, tactical rallies. However, Noskova is just hitting the ball with too much pure power right now. Expect the younger Czech to hit through Muchova's defences and claim her first major title.
