Moonee Valley Racing Tips for Saturday, 17th of June

Race 1

An competitive two-year-old to start with. If this weren't the Valley I'd be pretty keen on BEHAVE here but I just think she will get back and have to make a sweeping run, which isn't going to be suited here. I think the track will favour SPEAK SOFTLY's racing pattern, as she should be able to lead or sit outside the leader. With the track expected to favour horses close to the rail and on speed, that should be right where she ends up. $4.50 looks a decent price. TRULY DISCREET is an interesting runner at big odds. She had no luck on debut and Craig Williams takes the ride.

Tip: Speak Softly

Race 2

Average race. AIRINO is in good form with a win two starts ago followed by a narrow runner-up finish last start. The blinkers go back on here and she should be right up on the speed, possibly leading. Williams is booked to ride and she looks hard to beat in this field at $4.40. IF NOT NOW WHEN is the best filly in the race but is going to have a big task ahead of her with her racing style. She'll need to be pretty good and she'll need a good ride to win from back in the field. UNIQUE LOVELY bolted in at Swan Hill to break her maiden last start and carries just 51.5kg here, while FROCK 'N' BLING is one to monitor in the betting on debut with no public trials.

Tip: Airino

Race 3

I think they'll try and lead here with MISS VISTA and if they get the rail or if they're able to sit outside the leader then she'll be very hard to beat. The question is whether they'll get that from barrier 11 though, with 3 or 4 horses drawn inside of her also looking for the lead. I think with the speed on paper it could set it up for ZARA BAY here who can either go forward or back. With the speed I think they'll ride her off the pace from barrier 5, but she showed last prep that she can reel off a big finish from off the pace. Oliver takes the ride for the Hawkes stable and if she gets clear running at the crucial points I think she'll come over the top of them. Expect WORLD OF HOPE to bounce back from last start failure.

Tip: Zara Bay

Race 4

With SOHO RUBY here who just maps to get the perfect run behind the leaders from barrier 5. She comes out of a strong form race where she defeated Pedrena who then came out and won in Saturday grade at her next start. Think she has everything in her favour here and should be in the finish at $4.60. VIOLENT SNOW won at huge odds last start and there's not really any reason she can't do so again here at double figure odds. She will need another good ride from the barrier and although her record at 1600m isn't great, she won well at this track over 1500m last start. $15 available. EVERY FAITH worth including but will need luck and a good ride from barrier 1.

Tip: Soho Ruby (Best Bet) / Violent Snow EW

Race 5

LORD DA VINCI can definitely win this given he's never finished outside the top 2 from 6 starts when he's first up. But I'll be taking him on here with two. RELDAS has a great record at this track and distance and is racing in very good form. He's placed in 8 of his 9 starts over track and distance and he drops from Group 3 company back to Open company here. Two starts ago he ran 2nd to Bassett which I think is a hot form line, and so long as the pace is on he should be charging home. The second horse is MILITARY REIGN who I think we'll see lead today. That's how she is best ridden and last start she just didn't quicken on the straight track. The track could suit her because she loves to roll along in front and the short straight should see her very hard to run down. Oliver is a positive booking.

Tip: Reldas / Military Reign EW

Race 6

Super competitive race with a number of chances. HIGHLAND BEAT has been luckless in his past two starts but Williams takes over today and from barrier 5 I'd expect him to get his chance. His best form would see him very competitive here and the fact that Williams is taking the ride is a big hint. There's $10 still available about MYSTIFIED who looks a value option in the race. He ran home strongly last start behind Katsuro after drawing wide and settling back, but Oliver goes on here and from barrier 7 he can settle closer.

Tip: Highland Beat / Mystified EW

Race 7

Many of these come out of the same race behind Gallic Chieftain last start and in that race it was hard to ignore the luckless HURSLEY who was held up for the majority of the straight before flashing home to run 3rd. That was after drawing barrier 14 so from barrier 5 here we can expect him to settle closer to the speed and Craig Williams has listed this as his best ride of the day. The other I liked was COLDSTONE who is ready to win now stepping up to 2000m after two runs over 1600m. He's running consistently without winning but he gets his chance with the step up in distance, the good draw, the claim to bring him down to 52.5kg and also the booking of leading rider Beau Mertens. ROSE OF VIRGINIA ran 2nd last start but her 3rd up record is poor, while MEGAPBLAST has never placed on Good ground.

Tip: Hursley

Race 8

HEART STARTER is ready to win but he tends to get back in the field and from barrier 2 that could pose problems. Ben Allen hasn't been in the greatest form of late and despite the formline being strong, I just think he may find trouble at crucial stages. DATA POINT has returned in good order since being gelded, with a dominant win at Pakenham followed by a good 2nd behind Cannyescent last start. That formline is also strong given Cannyescent has won in both Melbourne and Sydney this prep. Beau Mertens goes on and he carries just 52.5kg. He draws wide so expect him to make a looping run. Hopefully by this time of the day the ground is a bit fairer. RHYTHM TO SPARE will get his chance from barrier 1, PETROLOGY also one to consider.

Tip: Data Point

Race 9

Like the odds about SEPTAMORE here at around $9.50.m He comes into this ready to peak 3rd up from a spell and he ran very well last start considering he pulled up lame. From barrier 5 he can lead or box seat and I think that makes him a great each way bet. The danger could be LEODORO who continues to run well and placed here last start in a strong form race. He was beaten just 0.3L behind Camdus and Chase The Horizon, but he goes up in weight here with the drop in grade, and also has to deal with barrier 11. He does get Beau Mertens aboard and if he reproduces his form from recent starts he'll be hard to beat.

Tip: Septamore EW (Best Value)
