Marsh One Day Cup Final: WA vs SA Betting Tips

March 7th 2023, 7:41pm, By: Mr.Cricket

It’s been a great season so far in the 2022-23 Marsh Cup, and it all culminates on Wednesday afternoon as Western Australia take on South Australia in the final from 3.05pm. Check out our full preview and betting tips for the big clash below!

Marsh Cup Final Betting Tips

WACA, Perth, Wednesday 8th March, 3.05pm (AEDT)

Season in Review

It was a pretty dominant season from the Western Australians from start to finish throughout the seven-game home and away fixture. The Black and Gold ran through the competition to finish with a 7-0 record, while the Redbacks won their final game of the season against Victoria to pinch a place in the final on Wednesday. New South Wales found themselves in unfamiliar territory, bringing up the rear with Tasmania, posting just two wins each this season.

Western Australia

Predicted XI: Josh Philippe, D’Arcy Short, Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, Cameron Bancroft, Josh Inglis, Ashton Turner, Ashton Agar, Cameron Gannon, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff

What a tough test the Western Australian selectors face ahead of the final on Wednesday afternoon. They have a seemingly endless list of talent to choose from, much of which is the reason why they have been so dominant in both of the white ball domestic competitions for the past decade.

They have a host of international level players in their top six, and with the likes of Marcus Stoinis and Andrew Tye returning to the line-up after missing the last game of the regular season, they are even stronger on paper. Hilton Cartwright and David Moody will likely be the two unlucky players to miss out from the side that was selected for the final game of the season.

South Australia

Predicted XI: Jake Carder, Henry Hunt, Daniel Drew, Nathan McSweeney, Jake Lehmann, Harry Nielsen, Ben Manenti, Nathan McAndrew, Wes Agar, Henry Thornton, Spencer Thornton

When you look at the talent on the South Australian side, it’s not hard to see why they are $3.50 outsiders for the final on Wednesday. There’s certainly some solid players there, but between them, just one has represented Australia in any form of white ball cricket, while 10 of their counterparts have.

Jake Lehmann will captain the side in the absence of usual skipper Travis Head, while the Redbacks will also be without star wicket-keeper/batsman Alex Carey, both of whom are on Australian duty in India.

Betting Tips

Hate to give out a $1.29 tip here, but it’s just impossible to bet against Western Australia when you compare these two teams on paper and factor in the home field advantage, which is without doubt the strongest in the league.

They have so much talent in their top seven that any one of them could play a match winning innings, while on the other side of the ball, you feel that the Redbacks are relying too heavily on one or two batsmen to guide them to a competitive score. Western Australia should record the first perfect season in the domestic 50 over competition since they did so back in 2018-19.

Prop Bet Quick Picks

Like the value of Marcus Stoinis to be the top runscorer for WA. Not completely sure where he will bat in the line-up but it could be as high as No.4, making the $10 on offer massive value, especially compared to the $6.00 at Ladbrokes.

Marcus Stoinis Top WA Runscorer ($10 at Sportsbet)

Henry Thornton was super impressive throughout the BBL season for the Strikers, taking 16 wickets in just 9 games at a great average of 16.56. Like his odds to top the SA wicket-takers here.

Henry Thornton Top SA Wicket Taker ($$4.00 at Ladbrokes)
