Round 26 of the 2024 NRL Season continues on Sunday afternoon at McDonald Jones Stadium when the Newcastle Knights play host to the Gold Coast Titans, with the home team playing to stay in the hunt for Finals footy.

Newcastle Knights vs Gold Coast Titans
McDonald Jones Stadium – Sunday 1st September 2:00pm (AEST)
The Knights are one of a host of teams looking to claim the final spot in the top eight and their draw looks pretty good, starting here with this home against the Titans. Their season has been mixed. Two weeks ago, should have beaten Cronulla but lost in Golden Point. However they bounced back in style last Saturday with an impressive win, albeit against a depleted South Sydney side. The form of Kalyn Ponga has been impressive post Origin and they do get Bradman Best returning from injury. But on the flip side, they lose a couple of players to injury but get able replacements so I think they should go into this game full of confidence.
Gold Coast looked to be on the right path and were a sneaky chance to play Finals around two thirds of the way through the year. However their recent efforts have been plain, including last week against the Roosters, who are one of the premiership heavyweights. The Titans were really disappointing, especially their right edge, leaking far too many points. I think you'd want to see a big game from David Fifita, who was made to look very ordinary last week against the team he backflipped on earlier in the year, at the hands of the bloke playing in his spot, Angus Crichton. He should have a big game.
There is too much to play for when it comes to Newcastle and while this could be a danger game given the Titans are a dangerous team at their best, I think the Knights will be too good.

Knights -9.5: As stated above, I do like Newcastle and I think will beat the Titans comfortably.
David Fifita 1+ Tries: As I said earlier, Fifita was poor against the Roosters last week and I reckon some of his efforts would have been highlighted this week. He will want to have a big game and I am tipping he'll score a try.
Bradman Best 1+ Tries: Star player who returns from injury and will be humming to go with eyes towards potentially playing Finals and helping Newcastle get there. Confident he'll cross the line.
