India vs Australia 3rd Test Betting Tips

Indore, 1st-4th March, 3.00pm (AEDT)

India

Predicted XI: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Srikar Bharat (wk), Axar Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj

After demolishing the Australians by six wickets to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India will likely take an unchanged lineup into the third Test. KL Rahul will be under pressure given his lack of form over the past twelve months, however given their persistence with the Indian vice-captain, they'll likely give him the opportuntiy to bat himself back into form with the sting taken out of the series. Australia were in the box seat during the second innings holding a 66 run lead with nine wickets in hand early on day three. Then one one crazy session, with some outstanding bowling by Ravindra Jadeja (7/42) and some horrific batting from the Australians, the Test match was essentially over.

This Test was originally slated to be played at Dharamshala before being moved to Indore due to insufficient grass density as a result of harsh winter conditions causing the recently re-laid outfield to have bare patches. The Holkar Stadium has hosted two Test matches which resulted in two massive victories for India, by margins of 321 runs as well as an innings and 130 runs.

Ravi Ashwin has 18 wickets in the two Tests played in Indore and will be full of confidence after taking fourteen wickets across the first two Tests of this series. Jadeja and Ashwin have taken 31 of the 40 Australian wickets to fall this series, and with spin friendly conditions on offer again, it’s going to be another difficult outing for the Australian batsmen.

Australia

Predicted XI: Usman Khawaja, Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Peter Handscomb, Cameron Green, Alex Carey, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Todd Murphy, Matt Kuhnemann

Things have gone from bad to worse for Australia with Pat Cummins (personal reasons), David Warner (elbow) and Josh Hazlewood (achilles) and Ashton Agar (form) have all travelled back to Australia. Cameron Green and Mitchell Starc are set to return for their first games of the series after recovering from finger injuries. After scoring 43 off 46 in the second innings as an opener, Travis Head will likely remain at the top of the order.

The Aussies lost 9/52 on a catastrophic opening session on day three, with the Australian batsmen coming under plenty of scrutiny for their sweep orientated game plans. Six Australians were dismissed playing sweep shots, in what was a complete panic as soon as Ashwin and Jadeja got on a roll. The Australians have had plenty of time since the second Test to figure out a game plan on how they’re going to play the Indian spinners, so a big watching point for this match will be how they approach them this Test.

Cameron Green’s inclusion will give the Australians greater balance with the ball, despite keeping three spinners in the side. Mitchell Starc will also give the Australian’s a point of difference as a left arm seamer, so despite the sweeping changes to the squad, this may be Australia’s best bowling attack of the series.

Match Prediction

Although after day two of the Second Test it had felt like Australia had learnt from the first Test and had made vast improvements that would keep them in the series, it was all thrown away in one terrible session. For Australia to be ahead of the game on day three and lose the match on the same day, makes it incredibly difficult to have any faith in the Australians avoiding a 4-0 series defeat. The conditions at Dharamsala would’ve benefited the Aussies greatly, but with the game being shifted to Indore, it’s going to be a near impossible task to win.

India are all over the Australians, and they know it only takes 30 minutes of good cricket to break this Australian side. Despite their dominance with the ball, the scary aspect for Australia is that India haven’t hit full stride with the bat this series. Kohli began to show some form which looms as a major issue for the Australian bowlers if they can’t knock him over early. Another big victory is instore for this Indian side that clearly has Australia’s measure in these conditions.

Virat Kohli scored 44 and 20 in the second Test and was looking ominous, particularly in the first innings. Kohli scored 211 in India’s first ever Test at Indore, against New Zealand. Kohli’s 44 in the first innings in Delhi was his highest score of his last six matches in Test cricket. Kohli will be desperate to make an impact on this series, and is primed for a big performance in the third Test.

Ashwin provides remarkable value in the wickets market, with the line at only 2.5. Ashwin has returns of 3, 5, 3 and 3 wickets from his four innings in the series so far. As highlighted earlier, Ashwin has dominated at Holkar Stadium, with 18 wickets at an average of 12.50. Ashwin has taken at least three wickets in each innings of this series, and he could be in for a huge performance at a venue he’s had plenty of success at.
