Horse Racing Tips: Tuesday, August 27th

August 27th 2019, 12:45pm, By: Luke Krahe

Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Tuesday, August 27th.

Racing continues with meetings at Mornington, Scone and Mackay this afternoon. Luke Krahe has given his best bets for each track below!

Horse Racing Tips: Tuesday, August 27th

Mornington Race 5 (Market)

You hear a lot of people saying that synthetic tracks are too tough to bet on, but what I do like about them is the form coming off a synthetic track back onto turf is not generally as strong. That is the case with (1) All In Brawl and (3) Encircle here. They have both been racing well on the synthetic at Pakenham, but today have to come back onto the grass and a heavy track at that! That leaves us with last start debut maiden winner (5) Starden Lass. She was at Wodonga on a soft track to start her career three weeks ago, settled mid-field and was held-up at a vital stage before menacing the line to get up late with a gap to third. She should handle the conditions well, looks suited getting up in trip to the 6 furlongs and will be finishing hard. With Linda Meech jumping on I expect that she will settle closer and the small field suits, I expect her to be the one that is well backed over the other two fancies.

Mackay Race 2 (Market)

At the time of writing there is no prices for the race, but (1) Ta Chanson looks to be a good thing in the second at Mackay. Obviously if he is too short, he may not be a betting opportunity for many, or you can multi him into something else you like, but anything over $1.60 looks a bet to me. He is an Ex-Bjorn Baker trained horse that has now made Mackay his home, he had his first North Queensland run here late last month and although he had every chance, he ran a nice race finishing second up on the speed with a good margin to third. He then went to Townsville and was backed as if there was no settling, lost the rider soon after jumping and those that backed him, well the ticket was confetti. This looks no harder, he has the speed to cross and will be very hard to run down in this type of maiden. There was just too much money for him last time to suggest he is not ready to win and break his maiden status.

(1) Ta Chanson

$1.50

Scone Race 1 (Market)

(4) Rambler Rebel is going to start a very short priced favourite after back-to-back wins to start this campaign. He won a hot maiden at Taree first-up then was there again last time when leading all the way at Class 1 level and bolted in. Do I think he will win? Probably. Is he going to be too short to back? Definitely. So, looking elsewhere there only appears to me to be one danger, (3) Engadine. He won twice when on the speed earlier in the prep, including one here at the track, his last two have been ok without having excuses. He was outside the speed at Gosford last time and beaten off at the furlong, the horse that finished alongside him that day has since won nearby at Muswellbrook. Both of these should go forward, hopefully the jock on Engadine Chris O’Brien doesn’t try and show more speed than the fave, if they settle one-two in the run it is likely to turn into a sit-sprint where the back markers will struggle to make ground.

(3) Engadine to place

$2.00

Scone Race 4 (Market)

A maiden for the boys over 1100m is being targeted here, (4) Roman Candle is an interesting runner resuming off an unofficial 6-week break after two nice runs to start his career. He debuted at Gosford back in early July, was a mile back in the run before hitting the line well in the best sectionals of the race. He then went to Wyong a fortnight later, again got back and ran on hard, this time producing the best last 800m of the race in a race that was dominated by those on the speed. There have been three individual winners since come through that maiden, one of them going on to win at Class One level on Sunday as well. The key here is that he gets on the much bigger track, Gosford and Wyong have every chort straights that usually play into the laps of the horses on the speed. The inside gate may be a little tricky but if he gets the breaks, he should be finishing better than any.
