Sale Race 1 - (Market)
(6) Little Town Blues is a debutant for the Busuttin/Young stable, he has had two recent jump-outs at home at Cranbourne and showed significant improvement from the first hit-out to the latest. It was almost three weeks ago that she had her second and most recent jump-out, she began well and controlled things in front in the middle of the track. She layed out in the straight and was given a reminder a couple of times by the jock, once he did though he responded and went straight and was strong through the line. Sale Race 3 - (Market)
(5) Samurai Moon debuted at Pakenham back in April, he got well back over an unsuitable 7-furlong trip and was very green, failing to make an impact. He was sent straight to the paddock and resumed at Bendigo 18 days ago, again he got back in the run but on this occasion, he worked home well, albeit laying-in down the straight. He gets an extra furlong in trip here which looks suitable, he probably even wants further. He handled the soft track well resuming and loses nothing with Willow being replaced by Olly. (2) Category Five looks one of the main threats on paper for the Maher/Eustace team, he will be up on the speed and have the tactical advantage over our selection. He seemed to have every chance last time in an easier Donald maiden, draws out again here and if he has to sit parked, hard to see him facing the breeze and beating this field.
Kembla Grange Race 1 - (Market)
(6) La Floret is a debutant for the Waterhouse/Bott team that has had two trials leading into this, winning them both. (6) La Floret and (2) War Memorial come through the same trial just under a month ago, as is the case with most of this stable her win was very professional and to my eye, she clearly had the better of War Memorial. She led, railed well into the straight and was given one dig in the ribs and was solid through the line. War Memorial was tardily away and followed the winner through he was pushed out in the straight and didn’t make any significant ground. A replay of that trial can be found here. They have both trialed well again since but am leaning to the horse that will be on the speed, La Floret.
Kembla Grange Race 3 - (Market)
Gwenda Markwell trains (1) Doctor Mancini here at the track, the son of Wandjina has had four starts and been runner-up at three of them. He has the inside gate which looks a positive as he jumps well and likes to race on the speed and make his own luck. Last start here in a similar race he was an easing favourite and forced to settle outside the leader, took the lead getting the better of the inside horse early in the straight before getting nailed in the last stride. There doesn’t look any challengers for the lead here and he should be able to roll along as he likes in front, hard to see any of these running him down.
