Horse Racing Tips: Monday, September 2nd

September 2nd 2019, 12:31pm, By: Luke Krahe

Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Monday, September 2nd.

This afternoon's meetings at Benalla, Kempsey and Wellington kick off a new week of Australian horse racing. Luke Krahe has identified his best bets of the day here!

Horse Racing Tips: Monday, September 2nd

Benalla Race 5 (Market)

A maiden set weights race over 2000m starts us off at Benalla, and I am going with the lightly raced 4YO (9) Yulong Captain at career start number two. He debuted at Sale just over a fortnight ago, was straight to the mile at start one and placed as favourite. He travelled mid-field in the run, was there to win but was a little one paced in the straight. A couple of factors that change here, today, he is on top of the ground on a good surface where he was on a soft track at his debut, the sting out of the ground may not have suited. The track condition won’t be a lot better though, he looks suited getting over more ground as well as he just wasn’t as sharp as others last time. Drawn horribly, we will be relying on a peach pf a ride from McNeil, but he looks to have plenty of upside. There are also another couple that are also early in their careers, I like target those types in maidens out over this sort of trip.

(9) Yulong Captain

$2.70

Benalla Race 7 (Market)

A stablemate to our first selection, (3) Yulong August gets the nod in Race 7. He has had four runs in this time, two of them on the synthetic where he ran on well and wedges in between was a harder Bendigo run where he ran on well to narrowly miss the placings in what was a hot for race, three winners have come from it since. He is on the week back-up from Swan Hill last Monday, in a much harder BM&0 he started single figure odds and was much better than the 6 length margin suggests. He over-raced badly early well back in the field, was held-up approaching the straight and made some ground late but never looked likely. Again, McNeil takes the ride, he should get a soft run off the inside and appreciate the massive class drop. The Hayes/Hayes/Dabernig team have made a stack of gear changes which hopefully will get him to settle better back in the field.

(3) Yulong August

$3.00

Kempsey Race 2 (Market)

There only looks a handful of chances in the seco0nd at Kempsey, a 1250m Class 2 which unbelievably, after all the rain around the metro and surrounding areas, comes up with a Good track rating. (1) Impulsive Maneuver gets the nod, he is very consistent only missing a place in 4 of his 13 career starts. He has been showing enough tactical speed over the shorter trips that stepping up a furlong in distance and from the good gate, I expect him to be right up on the speed throughout. He wasn’t as well away last time, was carrying 61kg but made some ground late after settling further back than expected. He loses nothing with McGuren going on today, the only time he has been over this trip was up the road at Lismore where he led everywhere but the post. (2) Moscini is a last start maiden winner at Quirindi where he bolted in after sitting outside the leader, I doubt he can do that here in a much harder race and happy to make him the lay of the day.

(1) Impulsive Maneuver

$3.80

Wellington Race 2 (Market)

(11) Trojan is still a maiden after 13 starts, but he has placed on six occasions and surely gets a very winnable race here. He was up on the speed resuming and had a soft run in a harder maiden at Dubbo, he didn’t let down well enough but it was more beneficial to be back in the run in that race. He draws out which looks more suitable, he will get back further but will get the galloping room he needs when the runs come. He was right out to 1400m last prep so he should be strong through the line, gets a much easier maiden and there are certainly no stars here. If the money comes for him, don’t be put off by his poor overall record and get ready to launch. Look for him late.

(11) Trojan

$3.40
