We're racing at three tracks to kick off the new week of horse racing in Australia, with Werribee, Muswellbrook and Dubbo all hosting meetings on Monday. Luke Krahe has offered his best bets for every meeting below!
Horse Racing Tips: Monday, February 3rd
Werribee Race 3 - (Market)
(10) Fling has been to the race 6 times for 2 placings, one of those was at Group Two level in the Sires Produce as a 2YO this time last year and was only beaten a half length! They are obviously having some issues getting the consistency out of her, she was beaten almost 20 lengths when resuming in a maiden at Sale when resuming. She led them up that day and was under pressure on the turn, very one paced and was the first one beaten. A couple of things, surely the Hayes/Hayes/Dabernig team would not be keeping her if she didn’t have ability (well she has shown that she does beaten only 0.2 lengths behind Dalasan in that Group Two, he would be $1.01 in this maiden). Secondly, they have added the blinkers for the first time, it may be a last ditch effort but she has trialed well enough and has good speed, if they sharpen her up and keep her mind on the job they won’t her running her down.
Muswellbrook Race 2 - (Market)
(1) Discombe gets his last chance here, beaten as favourite at his last four runs and was 6/4 second fave the start prior. They keep backing him so no reason to jump off, he looks the leader and should be able to get it uncontested. He was $2.70 into odds-on in the official prices last start on a soft track, that may be his best chance if the rain sticks around as predicted. (6) Total Recall is an interesting runner for the Messara yard, he was also truck-loaded in the betting on debut at Tamworth and narrowly missed. He settled handy but over-raced through the mid-stages, hit the line hard and probably should have won had he settled better. No gear changes to speak of, this is a little harder and doubt he can sit outside Discombe and win.
Muswellbrook Race 3 - (Market)
(8) Ellebeedee is still yet to win out of maiden grade now at career start 18 that’s not a great record! The key here is the lack of speed, from the wide gate I can see jockey Rachel Murray working across from out wide and trying to lead all the way. She was beautifully ridden behind the leader and would have traded short in the running after hitting the lead here last time, but just found one better. She races well here with 3 placings from 5 starts at the track, she has versatility as her maiden win was from back in the field. Hopefully they have the same map as I do and have come to the conclusion there is a lack of speed drawn closer in and they are positive early. There are no stars here, she gets her chance for that elusive non-maiden win.
Dubbo Race 2 - (Market)
(2) Blackadder is a new addition to the stable of local trainer Clint Ludholm, formerly with the Maher/Eustace stable where he placed at both of his runs at the first campaign. HIs debut run has been a good form reference, the winner has actually won twice since, second across the line has won its maiden and the horse fifth across the line has won a maiden at the Bool. He was right out to the mile at his second start and stuck on well after sitting wide without cover. First-up off an 8-week break, Greg Ryan takes the ride and he should be able to use his natural speed in an easier maiden to be on the speed for a long way.
