Coffs Harbour, Canberra and Stawell are three of the six meetings scheduled to take place in Australia on Friday. Luke Krahe has provided his best bets for each of those three meetings below!
Horse Racing Tips: Friday, May 22nd
Coffs Harbour Race 2 - (Market)
(14) Ciao Uno gets the Lees/Gibbons combination at career start number two, Gibbo replaces Penza from her debut run 18 days ago. She had trialed well prior to that first run at Tamworth and was very well backed and started deep in the red. She sat outside the leader and stuck on well producing the best last furlong of the race. She draws well again, this is a little harder but stepping up to the 6 furlongs, if she finds the lead they won’t be running her down (assuming she handles the heavy track).
Coffs Harbour Race 5 - (Market)
(1) Keen Power form the Maty Dunn yard will start favourite here after winning both of his career starts, I am certainly not saying he can’t win here fresh but just don’t want to be on him at the short odds. The stablemate to the fave (2) She’s Spicy has not won in her last two preps, she gets a good set-up in this. She doesn’t have a lot of tactical speed but the tempo should be good, she will be getting a soft run back on the inside and looks a great each-way bet. She stormed home on a heavy track after over-racing two starts back, she clearly handle the ground and was a real eye-catcher. Interestingly both of the Dunn runners have accepted for a Highway in the city on Saturday.
Canberra Race 2 - (Market)
(9) Myzaboom is a Gai/Bott filly that has had three starts, she was given plenty of time prior to making her debut back at Newcastle in early April. She was huge odds and got a mile back, she was only fair late but that has proven a hot form race. She then was off the track three-wide no cover at Goulburn and stuck on well to place prior to failing at Kembla last time in a harder maiden. The winner has since come out and won again and the second horse out of that maiden has bolted in south of the border to win its maiden by more than 3 lengths. I like the jock change from Jay Ford to Winona Costin, off the inside draw back in trip I can see her stamping it urgent and trying to land on the bunny.
Stawell Race 2 - (Market)
(3) Cheneford is unplaced at his two career starts, he was a mile off them in the run on debut and was one-paced, failing to run on he was sent straight to the paddock. He had 3 months off and resumed at Wangaratta 2 weeks ago, he settled mid-field and over-raced badly. He made some ground back on the inside in what may not have been the best part of the track, he seemed to handle the wet conditions well. He gets the blinkers on for the first time so should have plenty of improvement if able to settle better, look for him hitting the line hard back in trip.
