Big Bash League (BBL15) Renegades vs Scorchers Betting Tips
Marvel Stadium, Thursday 15th January, 7:15pm AEDT
Melbourne Renegades
The Renegades finals aspirations are all but over after a disastrous loss to the Sydney Thunder in a rain affected match on Monday. The Renegades looked in control defending 38 off the final three overs, however after Gurinder Sandhu conceded 18 runs off the 14th over and Will Sutherland conceded 15 in the 15th over, the Thunder only required 5 off the final over, which they got in just two balls. The Renegades will now need to beat the Scorchers and Strikers in their final two games, and need an array of results to go their way to make the final four. Mathematically possible, but highly unlikely.
The lack of economical bowling has hurt the Renegades badly this season, despite their ability to take wickets. Gurinder Sandhu has taken a league best 18 wickets, however he has conceded 9.92 runs per over, which does not cut it. Out of the eleven players who have bowled for the Gades this season, six have an economy above 9, and only two have an economy under 7.
The Renegades will be left to rue their inability to capitalise on a fast start with the bat once again, with Josh Brown and Tim Siefert putting on 62 for the opening stand inside of 7 overs. The Renegades then looked in a strong space at 1/83, but then lost 3/7 to fall to 4/90. Some late hitting by Hassan Khan helped the Renegades scrape to 8/170, however they should’ve been much closer to 200 which would have won them the game.
Perth Scorchers
The Scorchers won a high scoring affair at the Adelaide Oval in their last encounter, by 32 runs. Mitch Marsh scored 88 off 51, paired with Finn Allen (38 off 16) in an extraordinary opening partnership. The pair put on 81 in just 4.5 overs, in a 29 ball period where ultimately the game was won. Josh Inglis (42 off 23), Aaron Hardie (34* off 22) and Laurie Evans (20* off 8) got the Scorchers to 4/232 in a brutal batting performance.
As it has all season, the Scorchers bowling attack looked vulnerable as the Strikers were on target for the first half of the chase. However a quality spell from Englishman David Payne (3/35) ensured the Scorchers would defend their massive target. Conceding 200 runs to one of the worst batting sides in the tournament is a concern for the Scorchers as the head towards the finals.
A win over the Renegades will secure a finals position for the five time champions, and would set up a clash against the Stars with a top two spot on the line in their final game of the regular season. The Scorchers know how important securing the double chance will be considering the quality of the Stars and Hurricanes this season, so expect Perth to bring their best over the final two games.
Match Prediction
Although the Renegades defeated the Scorchers in their last outing, the Scorchers should win this game, and comfortably if they are serious about contending for the title. The Scorchers batting unit is in great form all season long, scoring 200+ in four of their eight games this season. Coming up against a Renegades bowling attack that has struggled to contain opposition batting lineups, the Scorchers should be able to put up another big score.
Although the Renegades have some recent success against the Scorchers, this has been one of the most one sided matchups in the history of the BBL. The Scorchers have a 16-6 head to head advantage and have a 7-2 record against the Renegades at Marvel Stadium. The Scorchers batting lineup will power them to another big score, which the struggling Renegades will not be capable of competing with.

BBL Renegades vs Scorchers Prop Bet
After a slow start to the season, Mitch Marsh is rounding into some serious form heading towards the finals. Marsh now sits sixth in the leading run scorers with 279 runs with a strike rate of 140. Marsh’s last four games have produced returns of 102, 37, 27, and 88 - a remarkable 254 runs at an average of 63.5, and he’s got a great opportunity to go big again, against an out of form Renegades side.
