BBL14 Renegades vs Stars Betting Tips
Marvel Stadium, Sunday 12th January, 7:15pm AEDT
Melbourne Renegades
Predicted XI: Josh Brown, Marcus Harris, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Tim Seifert, Jacob Bethell, Mackenzie Harvey, Will Sutherland, Tom Rogers, Gurinder Sandhu, Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa
The Renegades kept their season alive with a remarkable four wicket win over the Scorchers in Perth on Tuesday. The Renegades fell to 4/10 in pursuit of 148, but captain Will Sutherland (70 off 45) and Tom Rogers (49* off 31) played the innings of their lives to get the Renegades home in the final over. With the Renegades requiring 12 off the final over Rogers took Matt Kelly for 14 off just four balls in a stunning finish.
The top order made a meal of the chase, however it was the Renegades bowling attack that put them in a position to win. Adam Zampa (3/29), Will Sutherland (2/22) and Tom Rogers (2/39) continued their excellent seasons to restrict the Scorchers to 8/147. Rogers (13 wickets, ranked 1st), Sutherland (9 wickets, 9th) and Zampa (8 wickets, 12th) are all inside the top 12 wicket takers in the competition.
The batting at the top of the order continues to be an issue for the Renegades. The Renegades are averaging just 12.85 runs for the first wicket across their seven games, and have only once had a partnership above 30 across their seven games. Tim Seifert and Will Sutherland rank inside the top 18 run scorers in BBL14, however Josh Brown (averaging 23.50), Jacob Bethell (17.83) and Jake Fraser-McGurk (9.57) have been poor this season.)
Melbourne Stars
Predicted XI: Ben Duckett, Sam Harper, Beau Webster, Dan Lawrence, Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Hilton Cartwright, Usama Mir, Joel Paris, Mark Stekete, Peter Siddle
A stirring win over the ladder leading Sydney Sixers has kept the Stars season alive, who now just need two wins and other results to go their way to make the top four. Glenn Maxwell (58 off 32) and Beau Webster (48 off 41) helped the Stars scrape their way to 5/156, before the Stars bowlers produced an excellent final ten overs to get over the line.
The Sixers were 2/90 after 13 overs with James Vince (47) and Moises Henriques (13) set at the crease when they took the power surge. However Marcus Stoinis and Peter Siddle combined to take 3/11 in the power surge to completely turn the game in favour of the Stars. Mark Stekete (3/14) and Usama Mir (2/19) also contributed down the stretch as the Stars won by 16 runs.
The Stars batting has significantly improved over the last three games with improved batting stocks that gives the Stars genuine match winners across their top seven. Marcus Stoinis (246 runs at an average of 30.75), Ben Duckett (222 runs at 37), Glenn Maxwell (131 runs at 32.75) and Beau Webster (118 runs at 29.50) have been excellent for the Stars.
Match Prediction
The Stars keep finding a way to get the job done and are full of momentum, while the Renegades have lost three of their last four games, including a defeat to the Melbourne Stars on the 4th of January. The Stars have a seam attack in Stoinis, Siddle and Stekete that will give a struggling Renegades batting unit plenty of troubles on a difficult batting surface at Marvel Stadium.
Given what the Renegades have produced with the bat over the past four games, it’s difficult to see the Renegades turning things around on a tough pitch against an in-form bowling attack. The Stars bowling attack were all over the Renegades top order in the last Melbourne Derby, and it will be a similar story on Sunday night.
