Just one week remains in the BBL12 regular season. The final week of home and away action kicks off with the Sydney Thunder taking on the Melbourne Renegades from 7.15pm on Thursday night. BBL12 Thunder vs Renegades Betting Tips
Thursday 20th January, Manuka Oval
Sydney Thunder
Predicted XI: Matthew Gilkes, David Warner, Sam Whiteman, Oliver Davies, Alex Ross, Daniel Sams, Ben Cutting, Nathan McAndrew, Chris Green, Usman Qadir, Brendan Doggett
The Thunder look all the goods on paper but have just struggled to get the job done in the win loss column of late, losing their last three games in a row to the Sixers, Scorchers and Hurricanes. They sit in sixth place on the BBL ladder and will need to bounce back from their poor form if they want to catapult themselves into the all-important top five.
David Warner recently returned from Australian duty but has been the only big international name that has failed to fire so far, averaging just 9.5 runs over his two games back in lime green.
Melbourne Renegades
Predicted XI: Martin Guptill, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Sam Harper, Aaron Finch, Matt Critchley, Jono Wells, Tom Rogers, Will Sutherland, Ruwantha Kellepotha, Kane Richardson, Fawad Ahmed
The Renegades find themselves in unfamiliar territory at this stage of the season, maintaining one of the playoffs spot at the moment, if only by two points over a trailing pack of three teams in the Strikers, Hurricanes and Thunder by two points.
The Gades have won three of their last four games on the back of strong batting performances and another win here will likely cement their place in the finals for the first time since they won the BBL title all the way back in 2019.
Match Prediction
As much as I enjoy the cinderella story that is the Renegades at the moment, I think the Thunder are the value play at home on Thursday night. They haven’t been fantastic this season but when you compare the sheer talent of these two squads, I still think the Thunder outweighs the Renegades. Back the Thunder batting line-up to bounce back here and put up a defendable total.
Same Game Multi
Kicking off our same game multi with what has become a bit of an anchor leg when it comes to Renegandes games this season. Tom Rogers has taken a wicket in 9 of his 11 games this year and took 2/41 when the teams met earlier this season.
Combining that leg with both David Warner and Jono Wells to surpass 15 runs on Thursady night. Wells has just started to find some form of late for the Gades, scoring over 20 runs in all of his last six games in a row.
As for Warner, I think he bounces back after two lean scores in a row. After all he does average 57.0 for the Thunder.
