AFL Fantasy Round 19 Sunday: Where to Attack?
We'll be looking to load up heavily on both Hawthorn and GWS players this week, which probably comes as no surprise given the matchups against Richmond and Essendon.
These have been two of the friendliest fantasy teams in the competition all season. Essendon continue to concede more fantasy points than anyone in the league to designated kickers and general forwards, making the Giants an obvious stacking option across multiple positions. Whether you're targeting outside defenders, running midfielders or forwards, there are plenty of avenues to attack the Bombers.
Richmond have been just as generous, ranking at the bottom of the AFL when it comes to fantasy points allowed to general defenders and inside midfielders. Hawthorn should enjoy plenty of uncontested possession throughout the afternoon, while their contested ball winners also find themselves in one of the best possible matchups.
With two mismatches of this magnitude on the same slate, this is one of the more straightforward game scripts we've had all season.
Game Script – Hawks and Giants
AFL Fantasy Round 19 Sunday – Our Value Fantasy Picks
Oliver Greeves ($6,000) - Greeves impressed on debut last week, producing 51 fantasy points while rotating through the forward line with short bursts in the midfield. Hawthorn should dominate possession against Richmond and that gives the youngster every chance to stay involved throughout the afternoon, making him one of the better basement-priced options on the slate.
Riley Hamilton ($6,000) - Hamilton took a nice step forward in his second senior game, collecting 15 disposals and kicking two goals for 59 fantasy points against Geelong. He now gets an ideal matchup against an Essendon side that gives up more fantasy points to forwards than any other team in the competition, giving him genuine upside at minimum salary.
AFL Fantasy Round 19 Sunday – Our Mid Price Fantasy Picks
Tom Liberatore ($11,920) - Liberatore faces a tougher matchup against Gold Coast than some of the other premium midfielders on this slate, but those are often the games where his fantasy game thrives. Expect his tackle numbers to rebound after a quieter stretch in recent weeks, giving him a solid floor with the potential for a ceiling score if the contest becomes a midfield scrap.
AFL Fantasy Round 19 Sunday – Our Premium Fantasy Picks
Jai Newcombe ($13,990) - Newcombe is our premium pick of the week. While his last two scores of 66 and 79 have been below his usual standard, this matchup against Richmond is exactly what he needs to bounce back. No team in the AFL allows more fantasy points to inside midfielders than the Tigers and Newcombe is perfectly suited to exploit that weakness.
Finn Callaghan ($16,370) - Callaghan enters this matchup in outstanding form, averaging 100.3 fantasy points across his last five games. Essendon have struggled all season to contain both inside and running midfielders, making this another perfect opportunity for the Giants star to fill up the stat sheet. He looks like one of the safest premium plays on the entire Sunday slate.
