Back again with another round of MLB betting tips this week! Today we take a look at some of the key matchups in the 15 game slate this Thursday, the 27th of August below.
1st Game 6.10am (AEST)
The Braves will host the Yankees in a double header on Thursday. The first game kicking off from 6.10pm and the second following straight after from 9.10pm and we think the two games will have different outcomes. The first clash sees Yankees ace Gerrit Cole on the mound, and the right hander has been in dominant form so far this season.
Cole has a 4-0 record and is coming off a 10 strikeout performance against the Red Sox in his last game. The favourite for the Cy Young award has now won his last 20 consecutive starts and is undefeated in his last 28 and has a ridiculous 1.97 ERA over that span.
We don’t think Cole’s streak ends here. The Yankees are 17-7 against the spread this season and they will no doubt start as favourites for this match but we think they cover the 1.5 run line. Waiting on odds but expect it to be somewhere around the $1.90 mark.
Odds Coming Soon
2nd Game 9.10am (AEST)
The second game of the Atlanta-New York double header sees a very different pitching matchup in action. For the Yankees, it will be Masahiro Tanaka on the mound, who struggled in just over four innings in his last start, allowing six runs including two homers. He’ll be up against left hander Max Fried of the Braves, who has been arguably the most dominant pitcher in the National League this season.
Fried has a 4-0 record this season and has not allowed more than a run in any of his past five starts. He has a dominant 1.32 ERA over the course of the season and has 33 strikeouts in six starts.
The Braves have a 16-12 record on the season and lead the NL East division. They are definitely no slouches and will start the game as slight favourites with Fried on mound. They have looked like a different team when the lefty is starting, and we expect them to win the second clash of the double header on Thursday.
TIP:
11.45am (AEST)
How great is it to see Clayton Kershaw back on the mound and firing on all cylinders? The three time Cy Young award winner has recovered from injury and looks to be back to near his best. He struck out 11 en-route to a win over the Marlins in his last start and has a 3-1 record with a 2.25 ERA so far this season.
The Giants sit in fourth place in the NL West division with a 14-16 record and have right hander Kevin Gausman on the mound on Thursday morning. Gausman is 1-1 on the season with a 5.65 ERA and gave up four runs in just over five innings in his last start.
Clearly a tale of two very contrasting starting pitchers and two teams with very contrasting form at the moment. Back the Dodgers to win this one pretty comfortably.
