AFL Round 9 Sunday Betting Tips

Gold Coast vs Greater Western Sydney

Metricon Stadium, 3.35pm (AEST)

The Giants had a season defining win over the Tigers in Round 8 and will be looking to back it up as they face a much improved Gold Coast side on Sunday. With the win, the Giants move to 4-4 on the season and stay in touch with the top eight, but they’ll be looking forward to a three game stretch which houses really winnable games against the Suns, Bombers and Swans over the next three weeks.

After a hot start to the season, the Suns have lost two of their last three games and currently sit outside the top eight by just two points. They have a pretty tough run of games coming up with the Giants, Saints, Bombers and Tigers in their next four. The Suns went down to the Dogs in a respectable performance on Thursday night of Round 8 and will the benefit of a 10 day break heading into this game.

The Giants were super impressive in their win over the Tigers and it’s hard not to like them at the 10.5 line with that form. There has no doubt been some improvement in the young Suns list this season but GWS are still a class above and we expect them to take care of business in perfect conditions on Sunday.

Fremantle vs Collingwood

Optus Stadium, 6.10pm (AEST)

Can the Pies bounce back from a truly horrendous performance in Round 8 or will the demons of Optus Oval continue to haunt them as they face off against a Perth team for the second straight week. The Pies were absolutely trounced by the Eagles on Sunday, going down by 66 points as they kicked just six goals in the loss.

Injuries are a real problem for the Pies at the moment and Scott Pendlebury, Jeremy Howe and Jordan De Goey will remain on the sidelines for this clash. The Dockers have an extensive injury list of their own but skipper Nat Fyfe should return this week, which should give them a chance to win this match at the very least.

The Pies should win here. The Dockers are just too battered to be competitive at the moment, as they showed when they scored just two goals against the Cats in Round 8. Still, the 14.5 point line in favour of the Pies is a lot considering they were pummelled at the same ground just a few days ago. Back them to win by 1-39 here.
