2019 PGA Tour: 3M Open

July 3rd 2019, 12:19pm, By: andyrosos

The annual 3M Championship, which has been a PGA Tour Champions event for the past 26 years, will be upgraded to a PGA Tour event this season and renamed the 3M Open. The tournament will be played at TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota once again.

We have a full preview and betting tips for the upcoming PGA Tour event below!

2019 3M Open Betting Tips

36-year-old rookie Nate Lashley took out his first PGA Tour title victory last weekend in Detroit with a monster score of 25 under par to win the Rocket Mortgage Classic by a whopping six shots. TPC Twin Cities will no doubt offer a tougher test to golfers this weekend and with just three weeks until the final major of the year, the Open Championship, many players will be using this tournament as a key week in their preparation.

The Field

The No.1 player in the world, Brooks Koepka, was fairly quiet throughout the early parts of major season but he has been playing much more golf over the last month and will once again line up this weekend. He was a little lacklustre at the Travelers Championship a few weeks ago, finishing T57 after shooting three of four rounds over par.

Koepka will be joined by a fairly light field for the $6.4 million tournament headlined by the likes of Jason Day, Hideki Matsuyama, Bryson DeChambaeu, Patrick Reed, Tony Finau and Phil Mickelson.

Nate Lashley will be back in action after winning at the Rocket Mortgage Classic last weekend as well as exciting young amateur pair from Oklahoma State Viktor Hovland and Matthew Wolff.

The Course

The TPC Twin Cities will play as a fairly long 7,468 yard, Par 71 this week. It is made even longer by the redevelopment of the third hole, which usually plays as a Par 5 but will play as a Par 4 this week. As is usually the case with TPC courses, this week will be quite a test for golfers, with fairways being narrowed and rough thickened for the tournament.

One thing that will be left unchanged for this week will be the greens. We think the real test at the 3M Open will be from tee-to-green, so we’ll be targeting strong players in that category, however, it’s tough to get a real read on what will be important with no previous data to go by.

Love the look of Chilean youngster Joaquin Niemann this week. The 20-year-old missed qualification for the U.S. Open but has been fantastic in the two tournaments since then. He finished T5 in the Travelers Championship last weekend and backed it up with another T5 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic on the weekend.

Niemann ranks well in the key categories we are targeting this week:

  • 42nd in SG off the tee
  • 29th in SG approach the green
  • 31st in SG tee to green
  • 46th in driving distance

Others who we like this week:

- Jason Day - $8.00 at BetEasy
- Rory Sabbatini - $34.00 at BetEasy
- Nate Lashley -
$67.00 at BetEasy
