MLB Betting Tips Wednesday 30th July
Arizona Diamondbacks at New York Yankees (9.05am AEST)
After losing the first three games of the series, the Yankees bounced back in the fourth and final game at Fenway Park against the Red Sox on Monday. They captured a 9-6 win to move 8.5 games clear of their nearest opponents in the AL East division. They have won just five of their last 10 games and will face off against the Diamondbacks at home on Wednesday.
The Yankees will have J.A. Happ on the mound on Wednesday, who will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing start in his last outing, where he allowed six runs in just over three innings. He has an 8-5 record on the year so far but has been backed up well by his offence, as shown by his lofty 5.23 ERA.
Taylor Clarke returns to the mound for the Diamondbacks Wednesday after missing some time on the paternity list. His last start came on the 24th of July when he allowed just two runs and struck out seven in six innings against the Orioles. The Yankees weren’t fantastic in their four game series agains the Red Sox and Clarke should be fired up here after an extended rest. We think the Diamondbacks will be competitive away from home here.
Tampa Bay Rays at Boston Red Sox (9.10am AEST)
A vital six game stretch will start on Wednesday for the Red Sox as they kick off a three game series against the Rays at home before travelling to New York to take on the Yankees in another three game series. If they win all six, they could see themselves sore up the AL East standings and could finish the stretch just a few games behind New York.
David Price will kick off the series against Tampa Bay, facing his former team for the second straight start. He was unlucky not to get a win in his last start after giving up three runs through six innings. Price has a ridiculous record at home since moving to Boston, currently sitting at 29-8 with a 3.06 ERA.
The Sox start as slight favourites here and but they’ll have to content with Charlie Morton, who has been a Cy Young contender this season so far. The Rays pitcher has a 12-3 record with a 2.60 ERA in 2019 and is 5-1 in his career against the Red Sox. Tough game to call here, but there’s too much on the line for the Sox and it’s always hard to pitch at Fenway, regardless of what form you’re in. Sox to win.
Houston Astros at Cleveland Indians (9.10am AEST)
The Indians will host the Astros in another monster American League clash on Wednesday. Houston currently have the best record in the American League at 68-39 and have won eight of their last 10 games. They’ll have their ace Justin Verlander on the mound on Wednesday, who has a 13-4 record and a ridiculous 2.86 ERA this season.
He’ll be up against another right hander who has been impressive this season in Indian Shane Bieber. Bieber has a 10-3 record on the season so far with a 3.44 ERA and was ridiculous in his last start, allowing just one hit in a shutout win over the Blue Jays last Thrusday.
Another incredibly tough game to call here between two in form teams who both have dominant starting pitchers on the mound. The Indians have won seven of their last 10 games and have a fantastic 32-21 record at home. We think they hold out here in a close game.
