AFL Women's Round 5 Betting Tips
Melbourne v Brisbane (Friday, March 2, 7.05pm AEDT)
Brisbane head to Melbourne after two straight wins as they sit 2nd on the ladder. After losing the Grand Final last year and Tayla Harris, this has been a great effort by the Lions. They pride themselves on defence and that will be the key in this matchup. They’ve only allowed 85 points in 4 matches and rank 1st in AFLW. They now face 3rd placed Melbourne who will be desperate to end a two match losing streak. They started well against the Magpies last week but fell away in the second half. They can score points but the problem has been keeping sides quiet at the other end. They rank last in AFLW for points allowed and need to stop the Lions up forward. But in the end, the Lions are just in better form. They also beat the Demons 25-10 at this venue last season and they are 2-0 on the road this season.
TIP: Brisbane to win - $2.21at Sportsbet
Fremantle v GWS (Saturday, March 3, 5.05pm AEDT)
Fremantle and GWS will desperate for four points as they both sit in the top six. For the Dockers, they lost a close one against the Lions but will be back at home this week. They’ve won both at home this season against the Demons and Magpies. But they are struggling to score in the first half so the Giants will look to take advantage. GWS would of been disappointed with a draw against Adelaide after leading for most of the match. With matches to come against the Bulldogs and Lions, this is season on the line. In 2017, these two sides played in the first AFLW draw so I can see another close one. The Dockers are poor starters so I’ll back the Giants to lead at Quarter time.
TIP: GWS lead at Quarter time - $1.92 at CrownBet
Adelaide v Carlton (Saturday, March 3, 7.10pm AEDT)
After last week, the Blues will be hurting after they were absolutely smashed by the Bulldogs. They were down 51-0 at one stage and have now fallen to 5th on the ladder. In positive news, Tayla Harris is back from suspension. She’ll need to find the goals as the Blues are averaging just 20 points per match this season. They seem to really miss their skipper as well. For the Crows, they made a comeback last week but a draw didn’t help their final chances. This is their last match at Norwood this season and I’ll be expecting a close affair. The two sides played in a 17-14 result last year with the Crows just winning. This season, they’ve both struggled in front of goals so the under total is mainly the best bet in this one. The Blues have kicked just 10 goals and 23 behinds this season. The Crows aren’t much better with 15 goals and 13 behinds.
TIP: Under Total Points (TBA)
Collingwood v Western Bulldogs (Sunday, March 4, 2.35pm AEDT)
The last match of the round is an interesting matchup between the Bulldogs and Magpies. The Bulldogs are flying at the moment as they sit atop the ladder and they thrashed the Blues last week. Brooke Lochland kicked 7 goals to break the AFLW record and they showed no signs of scoring woes without Katie Brennan. Meanwhile for the Magpies, they finally earned 4 points as they thrashed the Demons in the NT. So they will be confident of competing with the Bulldogs. In the last meeting between the sides, Collingwood won 32-25. But this season, the Bulldogs have found more attaching options as they’ve kicked 29 goals in 4 matches. The Magpies are also a decent attacking team. They scored 58 points against the Demons and have kicked 20 goals in 4 matches. In the end, they both combined for 144 points last week so goal scoring form should help this match turn into a close one. Therefore, the either team to win by under 15.5 points is the safe bet and the Magpies should be able to cover the 10.5 point line.
TIP: Either team under 15.5 points - $1.80 at Sportsbet
