We started the AFL Women's League season with a decent 2-2 record (Carlton lost by 0.5 points as well) so we’ll be looking to go 4-0 in Round 2. Carlton again start the round on Friday night, this time in Sydney against the improved Giants. Read through our AFLW Round 2 game-by-game previews below.
AFL Women's Round 2 Betting Tips
Carlton v GWS Giants (Friday, February 9, 7.45pm AEDT)
The Blues are back on Friday Night after a close 22-14 win over Collingwood. In Round 2, they will face an improved Giants side. They were just a goal away from an upset against the Demons in Round 1 and will be confident of beating the Blues. In the last season meeting, the Blues got over the line 47-34. But this should be closer. The Giants kicked 5 goals in that match and should be able to find space against the Blues defence. The Blues are now 2-6 ATS in AFLW history and the Giants covered the 12.5 point line last week. So take the Giants to cover in a high scoring match.

Melbourne v Adelaide Crows (Saturday, February 10, 5.35pm AEDT)
This should be the match of the round as two flag favourites meet at Casey Fields. In Round 1, the Crows were well beaten by the Lions but they missed star Erin Phillips. She is also out again for this one. Meanwhile, the Demons survived against the Giants in Round 1 and earned the victory. They kicked 7 goals in that match and now have a 3-1 record at Casey Fields in AFLW history. But their defence isn’t the best and we can see the Crows having a slightly better time compared to last week. Brisbane has an elite defence and they were held to just 19 points. The two sides played in a 34-32 match last season (Melbourne winning by 2). So in 2018, this should be another close contest. But in the end, without Phillips on the park, Adelaide are much weaker. So the value in this match is Melbourne to lead throughout.

Fremantle v Collingwood (Saturday, February 10, 6.10pm AEDT)
The debut of Aussie Rules football at Optus Stadium is the key storyline in this matchup because both these sides are likely to struggle all season. The Magpies scored just 14 points against the Blues and Fremantle were down 34-0 at half-time versus the Bulldogs. Last season this was a very close contest with the Magpies just getting over the line 32-31. In 2018, the Dockers are struggling with injuries and that will be the major difference. Collingwood still kept the Blues to just 3 goals last week and shouldn’t have much trouble against the Dockers.

Brisbane Lions v Western Bulldogs (Sunday, February 11, 3.35pm AEDT)
In the last match of the round, this should be another entertaining contest. The Lions proved us correct against the Crows as they covered the line and beat the Crows by 2 goals. The Bulldogs also had an impressive 26 point win over the Dockers. They met last season at this venue and it was a defensive battle as both sides scored just 2 goals in a 23-16 scoreline (Brisbane winning). In 2018, the Bulldogs have Katie Brennan up and firing and that should be the major difference this time around. She kicked 3 goals last week and Ellie Blackburn dominated with 23 disposals. So the Bulldogs have the attack to trouble the Lions defence as they showed in Round 1. Therefore, the Bulldogs are great value over $2 for the win.
