2017 NFL: Week 4 Preview & Betting Tips

September 28th 2017, 5:32am, By: andyrosos

Absolute horror week for us in our NFL betting tips last weekend as we went 0-4 in stunning fashion. Nine underdogs won in Week 3 of the NFL so it was hard to avoid a tough week in betting but we’ll look to improve this weekend as we provide our NFL Week 4 Betting Tips below.

Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers (Friday 10.45am AEST)

While the Green Bay defence was a little off against the Bengals in Week 3, their offence was as good as ever, with Aaron Rodgers throwing for 313 yards and 3 TD’s in the win. They come up against the Bears this weekend who secured their first win of the season in a stunning effort against the Steelers.

Bears QB Mike Glennon is still struggled to get anything going in the air against the Steelers, with 220 of their 304 yards coming on the ground. The Packers boast one of the better pass defences in the league, allowing just 549 total yards throughout their three games so far, so the Bears will likely need to find their offence on the ground once again.

On the contrary, star QB Aaron Rodgers loves to air the ball out and the Bears susceptibility against the throw (ranked 20th in the league) leads me to believe that the Packers will put up too many points at home.

TIP: Green Bay – 6.5 - $1.71 at Sportsbet

Carolina Panthers at New England Patriots (Monday 4am AEST)

The Panthers suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of a rampant offensive Saints team on the weekend and now get arguably the toughest test in football as they travel to Foxborough to take on the New England Patriots.

The Patriots overcame the Texans at home on the weekend in what will surely be one of the games of the season. Tom Brady marched the length of the field with just over 2 minutes to go to score the winning touchdown against Houston and take the Patriots to 2-1 on the season.

Regardless of their loss to the Chiefs in Week 1, the Patriots are still a deadly team at home. However, their defence has been particularly lacklustre to start the season. They have allowed the most points of any team at 95 and the most passing yards through the first 3 games with a staggering 992. The bookies still seem to think the Pats are far and away the best team in the league, and have them as 9-point favourites in this one. After their performance against the Texans we think that line could be a little high, even at home.

TIP: Carolina +9 - $1.92 at Ladbrokes

Oakland Raiders at Denver Broncos (Monday 7.25am AEST)

Probably the game of the round sees the Broncos hosting the Raiders early Monday morning. Both teams suffered their first loss of the year on the weekend with the Broncos going down to the Bills and the Raiders falling to Washington.

The Broncos will welcome the return home for the clash and hope their star-studded defence can return to the form it showed in the first two weeks of play. They allowed just 37 points over those two games and are a top three defence against the rush and a top ten against the pass.

The Raiders are a well-rounded team on offence and defence but have shown they can be susceptible to a solid run defence. They rushed for just 32 yards against the Redskins last weekend which was the main cause of them putting just 10 points on the board. The Broncos boast one of the best defences in the league and are a great team at home. We like them to cover the 3 point line here.

TIP: Denver Broncos -3 - $1.99 at Sportsbet

Washington Redskins at Kansas City Chiefs (Tuesday 11.30am AEST)

The Monday night marquee game (Tuesday AEST) sees the Washington Redskins travelling to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs in what should be an interesting clash. The Chiefs have been one of the surprise packets of the season so far and along with the Falcons are the only remaining undefeated teams.

The Redskins have also been impressive and currently hold a 2-1 record after good wins over the Raiders and rams. Really tough game to call as both teams have come into the season as probably middle of the table teams and are both still pretty unproven.

Given they have the home field advantage and have shown a bit more with a great win over the Patriots, we have to side with Alex Smith and the Chiefs in this game.

TIP: Kansas City -6.5 - $1.88 at Ladbrokes
