2016 World Surf League: Quiksilver Pro France Preview & Betting Tips

October 4th 2016, 3:14pm, By: CrossRoads

The race for the 2016 WSL World Surfing champion is nearing the end. With just three events left we will see some desperate surfers doing everything they can. Our World Surf League previews continue with Betting Tips for the Quiksilver Pro France.

Quiksilver Pro France Betting Tip

Championship Tour number nine takes place this coming Tuesday on the shores of Landes, Nouvelle-Aquitaine in France. Landes is a beach break on the rocky coastline of the Atlantic Ocean of northern France. Breaks along this particular area are surfers everyday dream. As the NW and SW swells come rolling in the Atlantic, Landes provides medium size waves with peeling barrels and pristine faces.

Last year we saw the Brazilian Gabriel Medina take out the Quiksilver Pro over Bede Durbidge in a one-sided affair. Medina seems to enjoy this wave having been in the final two out of the last three years. Mick fanning and John John Florence have also had victories here in recent times.

With only three events left this season, I believe you will see the top ranking surfers push hard for a solid result in France. Last event in Trestles, saw the top ranked surfers been knocked out early in small and inconsistent conditions, apart from the South African Jordy Smith who came away with the win. The likes of John John and Medina didn’t make it past the 3rd round, along with Wilko who still can’t find form in the second half of the season. Jordy Smith certainly tighten up the standings with a win at Trestles and will come into France full of confidence in a wave that is similar to Trestles. Smith would have to be the most inform surfer at this point of the season. Having lost to John John in the quarters in J-Bay, to a round five exit in Tahiti, to a victory at Trestles over a gallant Joel Parkinson. Like many others Smith suits all types of waves and conditions, and should come out hard in round one.

Would be hard seeing an outsider win in France this year round. Jeremy Flores is the favorite Frenchman entering the water alongside wildcard Joan Duru who has a tough round one opponent with John John Florence. Part-time competitor Mick Fanning also sits out, to surfer’s delight, and is replaced by Hawaiian Dusty Payne.

Punters are leaning towards Medina and John John to take the winning prize in France, with Slater and Jordy Smith not far behind.

Tip: Jordy Smith to win - $9 at Sportsbet
