2016-17 NHL Betting Tips: Canucks at Penguins + Wednesday February 15th Games

February 15th 2017, 2:45am, By: CrossRoads

With the NFL season over and Basketball heading into the long All-Star break, we still have NHL to look forward to each and every day. The NHL is offering up a massive 7 game slate this Wednesday, the 15th of February and we have you covered with a full preview and betting tips for 3 of the key match-ups.

Vancouver Canucks at Pittsburgh Penguins (11.00am AEDT)

Vancouver continue their road trip, this time coming up against Crosby and the Penguins in Pittsburgh. The Canucks are coming off a 4-2 victory in Buffalo on Monday and now are 2-2 on this road trip. They are now just outside the wildcard position with a 25-25-6 record. The Canucks have endured some difficult seasons since losing the Stanley Cup to Boston in 2011, but have fought back hard this season and have denied critics to be just outside a playoff spot. Bo Hrovat has been part of this comeback and leads the team with 38 points. Vancouver are 8-17-3 on the road but have beat Columbus and came close to claiming a point against Boston. Ryan Miller is expected to start in this one as he still is the number one goal tender for the Canucks.

Pittsburgh are tied with Columbus in the standings and will try and bounce back after a surprise loss in OT to Arizona. Josh Archibald was the star claiming two goals as the team fought back to claim a point. Pittsburgh are 22-3-3 at home this season and their offense shows why they are a uncontrollable force. Pittsburgh are ranked first for goals and forth for shots on goal. Captain Crosby leads the team with 60 points this season and 30 goals. He will also be looking for his 1000 point against Vancouver as he is two short of that mark. Evgeni Malkin is close to returning as well after missing seven straight due to injury.

TIP: Pittsburgh Penguins Double Result - $2.74 at Sportsbet

New York Islanders at Toronto Maple Leafs (11.30am AEDT)

The Islanders are sixth in the metropolitan division and can sneak into the wildcard position with a win over the Leafs. The Islanders came up with a 5-1 win over Colorado on Monday, which pushed their home record to 18-8-6. The Islanders are evenly spread with Toronto, but do lack strength in the power play. Thomas Greiss will start in this matchup.

Toronto desperately need to bounce back after two straight losses to St Louis and Buffalo at home. The Leafs need to come out faster and stronger in this matchup. They have been out scored 13-6 in the past seven first periods. The Leafs offense is outstanding but the team is ranked 21st in goals allowed and give away over ten minutes per game in penalties.

TIP: New York Islanders H2H - $2.10 at Crownbet

Arizona Coyotes at Edmonton Oilers (1.00pm AEDT)

Arizona are enjoying some victories at the moment. On Tuesday they knocked off Calgary 5-0 and beat the Penguins in OT to give Arizona two wins on the trot.

This will be their second game straight which may push the legs against a top side. They will start Louis Domingue who's record is outstanding with a 5-12-1 with no shutouts this season. There will be no playoffs this year round for the Coyotes, but at least they are still competitive and causing some upsets late in the season.

This is an opportunity for the Oilers to level up the standings with Anaheim and edge further away from an inform Nashville. The Oilers haven't been their best of late after being thrashed on home ice by the Blackhawks. They have had a couple of days to regroup from that loss and will battle it out against a bottom placed team. Expect to see some line changes in this one as the Oilers would love to pick up their offense, as they have only scored twice in the past four matches.
