Warrnambool Racing Tips: Wednesday May 3rd

May 2nd 2023, 5:56pm, By: Brendan Bunworth

Warrnambool Racing Tips

Day 2 of the Warrnambool Carnival sees us go into the meeting +5.2 Units after Day 1, and  with the track already being downgraded to a Heavy8, it's going to be tough going for punters.

Horses are already coming down the middle of the track and it may be an advantage if your horse doesn’t have the inside three barriers.

The Galleywood is a highlight, as is the Wangoom Handicap. Check out my best racing tips for Warrnambool below!

Warrnambool Racing Tips – Wednesday, May 3rd 2023

Race 4: Decron Dunroe Steeplechase - 12:55pm (AEST)

(3) Roland Garros for the Maher & Eustace camp and Will McCarthy will carry 71kg over the 3450m Steeplechase. The downgrade in track is no issues for this guy and he has trialed up solidly for this assignment. The stable has only had him for 6 weeks but McCarthy has gotten to know him recently and will be confident of a forward showing.

(5) Under The Bridge likes Warrnambool and will be fitter now for the Wilde team. He was 2nd at Hamilton recently and did trial fairly behind Brittanicus last week and that horse won on Day 1.

(2) Count Zero won at Terang last time after settling handy and the same tactics will be tried again, but I am not sure he will carry the weight.

(7) Tolemac for the strong Wilde team loves the wet and with more rain forecast overnight he really comes into play here. His trial behind Police Camp last week was good but that horse ran poorly on Day 1.

(3) Roland Garros - WIN

$4 (3 Units)

Race 6: The Galleywood Hurdle - 2:05pm (AEST)

(1) Sautner Boy is a crowd favourite at the Bool and it does look like he is cherry ripe for this race. The odds are small, but if we are up and about early, we might put our profits for the carnival on this bloke. He has won 3 of 8 on the Heavy and his 2nd at Pakenham last start was very good and the stable were delighted with the run. He has been set for this week and he has won 10 from 14 over the hurdles.

(2) Blandford Lad is another who has been set for this race and Team Gelagotis are quietly confident despite the Savabeel gelding carrying a high weight of 69kg for Aaron Lynch.

(3) Instigator for local Aaron Purcell is in form but has never won at his home track after 6 tries.

(7) San Remo is very consistent but his winning chances are probably gone after the track downgrade.

(1) Sautner Boy - WIN

$1.70 (5 Units)

Race 7: Sinclair Wilson Handicap - 2:45pm (AEST)

(5) Field of Flutes is fitter now and did trial well at Ararat 2 weeks ago. Before that on March 23 he went to the lead but was pressured throughout and tired for 3rd but with Linda Meech on here I think the tactics may be to lead again. Meech is a great front riding jockey and I expect late support for this one.

(4) Stay In Touch is the stablemate and despite being a bit slower he is 2 from 2 on the Heavy. Johnny Allen is on after the horse won a Cranbourne jumpout on April 24.

(6) Miss Belvenie for local Tom Dabernig has been set for this and she is 1 from 1 on the Heavy. She is 3 from 3 first up. Big chance.

(7) Sabar is another local but he does prefer the dry. I wouldn’t count him out though after a good 5th at Hillside last start.

(5) Field of Flutes - WIN

$5.50 (2 Units)

Race 8: The Wangoom Handicap - 3:20pm (AEST)

(2) It’sourtime has a wide barrier in 13 for The Wangoom but that may not be a disadvantage later in the day. He hasn’t won in his last 10 attempts but he ran a good 2nd in his only race on the Heavy and he has been in the money 5 of 6 starts over this distance. Michael Dee is on and he will look to swoop over the top of them as this horse does like coming from behind.

(3) Outlaws Revenge has drawn next to our selection and trainer Daniel Bowman would love to win one and his home carnival. Ran home very well behind a smart one last start at Lakeside (D’Jumbuck).

(6) Chief Altony is first up and may need further but he loves the wet tracks. Barrier 14 could be a plus.

(8) Inn Keeper is over the odds and may be worth a place bet. Loves the Heavy and loves the track.

(2) It’sourtime - WIN

$7.50 (1 Unit)
