Sandown Racing Tips

Ladbrokes Park (Hillside) will host eight competitive races on Wednesday on a track that is predicted to be a Soft 5 surface. The leading Hayes, Waller and Moody stables battle it out in the first race which gets underway at 12:25pm (AEST).

Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday, July 19th 2023

Race 2: Evergreen Turf Handicap - 1pm (AEST)

(7) Wonderwall was a little disappointing last start but that was in a much harder race than this (9th of 13). She has proven herself on Soft ground previously and from barrier eight can drift back like she does before unleashing a powerful finish. She did that at Seymour 2 starts back when she started an even money favourite.

(8) The Devil In Her will start fav after she did look the winner at one moment at Lakeside last start before Elsie May finished too strongly. Any rain on the day is a bonus but the forecast does look clear.

(6) Sandpiper comes over from NSW and has to be kept safe. Laura Lafferty takes the ride and she has a good barrier to steer from in 2.

(5) Kandyan is on a 9-day back up after winning by a head at Pakenham last start. Harder here but she will make her own luck on speed.

(7) Wonderwall - WIN

$5.50 (1 Unit)

Race 3: Ive Handicap - 1:35pm (AEST)

(2) Dillian ran home very well at this track last time (3rd) and if the pace is on will do so again here. A few should roll forward in this which will give Thomas Stockdale the chance to balance up nicely before putting him into the race. Lightly raced and has won on the Soft previously.

(1) Khoekhoe won well at this track on May 21 when he led all of the way and Maddison Lloyd may try that tactic again here.

(5) Christmas was a 7.5L winner last race (Geelong) and comes into play again if the track gets downgraded to Heavy. Will settle midfield and will be in the picture at some stage.

(6) Chevalier Du Fau has led all of the way in his last couple and will need to lead again to win. There is a bit of pace in this so will need to control the speed.

(2) Dillian - WIN

$3.20 (2 Units)

Race 5: Ladbroke It! Handicap - 2:45pm (AEST)

(5) Pereille is fitter now and despite this race being harder than his last start close win at Kensington (NSW), he should measure up on the Soft ground here. He has placed in all career starts and he loses nothing with Matt Cartwright taking over from Zac Spain this time. Cummings and Godolphin combine and there may be a win during the Spring with this one.

(7) Bitoftheblarney is a big chance if he jumps better here. He has trialed up nicely and his debut win from a fair way back looked impressive at Werribee.

(8) General Knowledge is resuming here and has drawn well in barrier 2. It's been a long spell but the Ellerton camp knows how to win when first up.

(2) Epic Centre led at Caulfield and got tired late when 3rd on June 24. There doesn't seem to be much pace in this so could lead again.

(5) Pereille - WIN

$3.50 (2 Units)

Race 8: Ladbrokes Yard Comments Handicap - 4:30pm (AEST)

(11) The Nephew has a win and a 2nd to his name over the 1800m and he was recently placed in a harder race than this on June 24 at Caulfield. He is very fit now and will get back and pull out wide but that just might be the place to be in the last race. Billy Egan is on and knows this horse very well now.

(10) Flossing is ready to fire now and any rain on race morning is a bonus. Blake Shinn goes on for the first time which may help.

(14) Swiss Hero has won 7 from 34 starts but hasn’t done much in his last 4 starts for the Archie Alexander camp. He is better than that and is another who is 100 percent fit now and ready to show his best.

(15) Irish Rockstar was a 7L winner at Warrnambool on July 2 and he will go forward again. Barrier 11 is a slight worry as will have to use a fair bit of energy to get there in this largish field.

(11) The Nephew - WIN =

$5.50 (2 Units)
