Midweek racing heads to Ballarat on Wednesday for a seven-race card, three of which I’m keen to play into. On a good surface, I envisage every horse to be able to get its chance. (2) Gottabesavvy – Soft winner when rising in trip second up. The added distance again is sure to suit, as evidenced by his strong maiden win over this trip last time in. This doesn’t appear to be that much tougher a race to what he saw last start. There are not many trainers in better form in Victoria at the moment than Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, with Craig Newitt one of the main beneficiaries as they’ve combined for four winners over the past two weeks.

(9) Waterworld – Taking a flyer on one at big odds in the form of this Peter Moody-trained three-year-old. He was costly last prep, rolled as a favourite in three of four starts, but his maiden win over this trip was dominant. I think he’s talented, but just yet to put it altogether. This is now his third prep and he has jumped out well, showing good pace.

(15) Captain Britain – He was set a task last start, rising sharply in trip from 1200m to 1700m, but he acquitted himself nicely, running on strongly from last into the minor money in an on-pace dominated race. That was on rain-affected ground, so getting back on top of the ground suits. He won first and second up on a dry track. Another plus is the drop back to the mile. He’s a lightly raced gelding who’s fit and has plenty of upside.
