2016 World Surf League: J Bay Open Preview & Betting Tips

July 5th 2016, 11:20am, By: admin

2016 WSL J Bay Open Betting Tips

Event window: Wednesday 6th July-Sunday 17th July
Location: Jefffreys Bay, Eastern Cape, South Africa

We started off our surf betting tips with an outright winner in the Fiji Pro. Gabriel Madina payed $7 to everyone that followed. Lets see if we can go back-to-back.

Stop six on the WSL tournament takes us to the shores of the famous Jeffery’s Bay. The event begins on the 6th of July and runs through to the 17th of July. Jeffery’s Bay, known as J-Bay, is located in South Africa on the Southern Ocean. It is one of the best right-hand point breaks in the world. J-bay is a super long break, because of this it is broken up into sections, the most popular being Boneyard, Magnatubes and Supertubes. J-bay is a fast intense wave that will allow surfers to get barrels on the inside if they keep their speed.

I believe this season is one of the most competitive. Matt (Wilko) Wilkinson is still solid after winning the first two events of the season on his backhand at Bells beach and Snapper rocks, which are similar to the break at J-Bay. Gabriel Medina won the last event at Fiji with some unbelievable barrels, and along with John John Florence will look to tighten the standing over all. Then there is hometown hero Jordy Smith, knows this wave better than most. He has won at J-bay in 2010 and again in 2011.

If we go back to last year’s J Bay Open, where the infamous shark attack on Mick Fanning ended the tournament early in the final against Julian Wilson. This year fanning makes his way back into the Southern Ocean to attempt to keep his 2014 J-bay title. Fanning has only surfed in three events this year, but is truly still in fine form. In the 2016 events he has made it to the finals twice, including a quarter final knock out against Adrian Buchan. I’m sure this event will be hard mentally on Fanning, going back into those same waters where he was attacked, but in saying that Fanning suits this wave perfectly. He is a strong natural foot, and always has great judgment on which waves to choose. He has the strength and energy to be solid through his heats.
