2014 NFL: Week 8 Preview and Betting Picks

Last week was a solid week betting on the NFL. Hopefully our 2014 NFL Week 8 preview and betting picks can also be profitable! Check out our rolling tally of NFL betting results by clicking here and be sure to read on for all our latest NFL betting tips.

San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos (Friday at 11:25am AEST)

It’s that time of the week. Thursday Night Football hosts an AFC West battle for supremacy as San Diego travel to the high altitudes of Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver. Both the Chargers and Broncos boast a five win record and both have to deal with the short week of preparation.

Peyton Manning broke Brett Favre’s record for most career touchdown passes last week against the 49ers and he did it with a smile on his face. He was extremely accurate and with the ALL STARS around him they are looking increasingly dangerous. Manning also leads the league in passer rating with a QBR of 118.2 not far behind him is Chargers quarterback Phillip Rivers.

Phillip Rivers struggled in week 7 completing only 17 of 31 passes and an interception for a QBR of 83.4. He and the Chargers let one slip against Kansas City 23-20 in front of a home crowd.  They may have been in a “look ahead” spot, although it may have been pointless as they will face a similar defense in (Broncos ranked 3rd) except they also have to face a number one ranked offense(31.5 ppg) that includes one of the top 3 quarterbacks of all-time.

Problems for the Chargers!

The Chargers are more than likely to be without jet cornerback Brandon Flowers as he suffered a concussion last week. The Chargers defeated Denver last season but they did it on the ground as Ryan Mathews piled on 127 yards with a touchdown. Mathews is out with a knee injury.

Revenge angle and Peyton Manning on a short week= money in the bank.

Seatlle Seahawks at Carolina Panthers (Monday at 4:00am AEST)

Last year’s Super Bowl champs will try and avoid a three-game losing streak as the Seahawks travel to Charlotte to take on the Carolina Panthers. I can’t believe how many people are jumping off the Seahawks, after a tough home loss to an impressive Dallas team and a circus show road loss to the St. Louis Rams. We only have to go back one month to see a Seattle team beat the number one power ranked team in the NFL the Denver Broncos.

The line opened at -3.0 and keeps moving up. Currently sitting at -5.0. I can only see it rising so grab it while you can.

Key Game Facts

A)     Carolina is terrible defending the run (ranked 30th) allowing almost 140 yards per game.

B)      Seattle is ranked 2nd in the NFL running the football with 153.3 yards per game.

A+B=C

C)      Seattle will control the time of possession and the game.

Also Seattle’s defense is still ranked (2nd) in total yards and they will certainly take advantage of a beat up Carolina offensive line. Seattle is 12-4 ATS in their last 16 games on the road. Seattle win by at least a touchdown.

Indianapolis Colts at Pittsburgh Steelers (Monday at 7:25am AEST)

Heinz Field in Pittsburgh will host the Indianapolis Colts as the Steelers will try and put a stop to the colts five game win streak. This line is way off in my opinion. Don’t let Pittsburgh 4-3 win record fool you. In their last five games they have beaten the likes of Jacksonville, Carolina and Houston not to mention getting blown out by the Cleveland Browns. Now they face a top 3 ranked team with a quarterback that shows no signs of slowing down.

Pittsburgh is very mediocre when defending the pass. Allowing almost 250 yards of offense per game through the air.

Indianapolis is the number one team in the air. Passing for almost 360 yards per game.

Luck? I Think Not!

There’s nothing ‘lucky’ about number 12 who continues his MVP type season. He passed for 344 yards with two touchdowns vs Cincinnati last week and continues to share the ball around to a plethora of receivers.

Green Bay Packers at New Orleans Saints (Monday at 11:30am AEST)

Sunday Night Football looks like a humdinger as the New Orleans Saints host the Green Bay Packers under the dome. The Saints are 2-4 with wins only against Tampa Bay and Minnesota. Now they face another rampaging team with an elite quarterback. Aaron Rogers is also in the MVP hunt and has put up unbelievable numbers over the last four weeks with 13 touchdowns and zero interceptions with a QBR of close to 140 (WOW). He also excels indoors.

The Saints were one of the favourites to win the super bowl pre-season and now they don’t even look like making the playoffs. Obviously their backs are against the wall and they will give a full effort in this one but I just can’t see them keeping up with Rogers and Co. Not to mention Jimmy Graham is listed as questionable (shoulder) and if he does play he won’t be at his best.

Taking Green Bay in a close one.

Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys (Tuesday at 11:30am AEST)

Monday Night Football heads into Texas as AT&T stadium hosts the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys are flying along at 6-1 while the Redskins are down to their third string quarterback and are 5-2.

The Redskins don’t actually look that bad on paper or at least in all the stats categories. They do however turn the ball over a lot and although they rank 5th in total yards allowed they can’t stop anyone when it counts allowing 26.1 points per game (ranked 25th). Now they turn to Colt McCoy a 28 year old quarterback who hasn’t started a game for about three years. It would be hard enough starting in a normal game let alone the national stage of Monday Night Football. McCoy will be doing well just to hold onto the football.

The Cowboys are now being talked about as genuine super bowl contenders. Led by running back DeMarco Murray who leads the league with 913 yards and also a superb Offensive line which is giving Romo the time he needs to keep the turnovers at a manageable level. Dez Bryant is still Romo’s go to receiver with 45 receptions for 590 yards. The Cowboys now have a defense that can make some stops too. They are ranked 9th in points allowed at 21.0.

This is a perfect opportunity for Dallas to make a statement in front of a national audience.
