2018 NRL: Round 19 Preview & Betting Tips

July 17th 2018, 10:03pm, By: matta91

The NRL is fast approaching the business end of the season and things are really starting to heat up as the final race begins! Round 19 of the NRL season gets underway this Thursday and we are back with a full betting preview of all the Round 19 matchups below.

NRL Round 19 Betting Tips

Parramatta Eels vs Canterbury Bulldogs (Thursday, Jul 19 7:50pm AEST)

Round 19 begins with the Eels up against the Bulldogs at ANZ Stadium. The Bulldogs are coming off a comfortable loss against the Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium. Meanwhile, the Eels are 3-14 on the season and lost a close one to the Knights last week. The trend in this rivalry matchup is low scoring so I love the unders. The last 6 meetings have fallen under 38.5 points and the two sides played in a 20-12 game this season. Under is also 14-6 overall in all games at ANZ in 2018.

Cronulla Sharks vs Canberra Raiders (Friday, Jul 20 6:00pm AEST)

On Friday night, the Sharks and Raiders meet at Shark Park. In regards to ladder position, the Sharks 6th on the ladder and the Raiders are sitting 9th. So the home side is pushing for top 4 and Canberra needs to win for their top 8 hopes. However, the season ending injury to Jarrod Croker really hurts. But they do have a great record at this venue with 4 straight wins. So I can see both team’s having success in attack with the both teams to score 13+ points getting up. The Raiders have still not fallen under 13 points this season and the Sharks have scored 13+ in 9 straight. It also saluted in the Round 10 meeting.

Brisbane Broncos vs Penrith Panthers (Friday, Jul 20 7:50pm AEST)

NRL football continues with the Broncos playing the Panthers at Suncorp Stadium in this clash. Both sides are sitting in the top eight but come off losses in Round 18. The Broncos were poor at Suncorp in a 26-6 loss against the Warriors. The Panthers lost a close one against the Sharks at Panthers Stadium by 12 points. So the bookies are finding it hard to pick this game with the Broncos just favourites. But the return of Origin stars for the Panthers should see them to return to form. In the last meeting, they played in the semi-finals at Suncorp with the Broncos winning 13-6. In 4 of the last 6 games at Suncorp, the margin has been under 10 points. So with both sides desperate for a win, the either team bet should salute here.

Newcastle Knights vs Gold Coast Titans (Saturday, Jul 21 3:00pm AEST)

Round 19 continues with the Knights hosting the Titans at McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday. Last time out, the Knights survived against the Eels at McDonald Jones Stadium by a score of 18-16. The return of Mitchell Pearce was the key and it stopped a 3 game losing streak. In the Titans last game, they lost a close one (20-12) against the Roosters at CBus Super Stadium. However, they should return to their attacking form this week. They met the Knights in Round 11 at Robina, which ended in a 33-26 win. Previously in Sydney, they scored 30+ against the Tigers and Bulldogs. The Knights won the last meeting at this venue 34-26. So the trend in this matchup is points and plenty of them. The over has hit in the last 3 meetings and that’s the way I’m leaning again.

Wests Tigers vs South Sydney Rabbitohs (Saturday, Jul 21 5:30pm AEST)

Super Saturday continues with the Tigers taking on the Rabbitohs at ANZ. This game has a few key storylines with the main talking point being Robbie Farah taking on his former side. He was excellent last week as the Tigers took down the Dragons 20-16 at Jubilee. So they’ll look to end the Rabbitohs 9 game winning streak. Winning 10 in a row in the NRL is a tough ask and I think the Tigers have the defence to stop their attack. They’ve also won 4 of the last 5 at ANZ against them. So Tigers at the line, in what should be a close encounter.

North Queensland Cowboys vs St George Dragons (Saturday, Jul 21 7:30pm AEST)

The Dragons seem to have a hit a rough patch after a great start to the season. In back to back weeks, they’ve lost to the Storm 52-30 and the Tigers 20-16. The trend in their last 3 games is slow starts, so they’re proving to be a hard bet at the moment. Speaking of hard to tip, the Cowboys are simply unreliable in 2018. They followed a 1 point loss to the Rabbitohs with a 38-12 loss in Canberra last week. So in the end, happy to steer clear of this game.

TIP: No Bet

New Zealand Warriors vs Melbourne Storm (Sunday, Jul 22 2:00pm AEST)

The Storm recorded a close victory in Round 18 as they beat the Sea Eagles by 1 point. Which was impressive with pretty much a second string lineup. Now against the Warriors, they’ve brought back their Origin stars and head to New Zealand with a 6 game winning streak. The Warriors are coming off a victory against the Broncos by 20 points. Which avenged a 36-4 crushing defeat the week before. However, they’ve had trouble winning at home recently with 3 straight losses, all to top 8 sides. The Storm are 5-0 against them and scored a 50-10 win on Anzac Day this season. In NZ, they’re 2-0 since 2016 and I can’t see this professional side dropping this game. Storm to win for the safe bet.

Manly Sea Eagles vs Sydney Roosters (Sunday, Jul 22 4:10pm AEST)

On Sunday afternoon, the Sea Eagles and Roosters meet at Brookvale Oval. This should be an interesting battle between Cherry Evans and Cronk. The Manly halfback has hit form after an outstanding performance in game 3 of Origin. Cronk is back after a week off and he joins a host of Origin stars returning for the Roosters. They’re the form side coming into this clash with a 7-3 record in their last 10, compared to the Sea Eagles 3-7 win-loss record. However, Manly has suffered a few close losses lately, including a 1 point loss to the Storm at this venue last week. The trend for the Sea Eagles is low scoring games at Brookvale. They’ve failed to score over 13 points in their last 4 at this venue. The Roosters own the best away defence in the NRL. While in attack, they haven’t been putting away sides this season, which should keep this under the total of 40.5 points.
