2018-19 A-League: Round 2 Preview & Betting Tips

October 25th 2018, 10:27am, By: andyrosos

Fortunate start to the 2018-19 A-League season as we missed on all three bets in Week 1. All three losses came at a margin of one goal, however, as we picked Sydney to get the win on Friday night only for them to draw 1-1. We picked the Melbourne derby to be a draw on Saturday night before a late goal to Melbourne City helped them to a 2-1 win and we picked Brisbane to beat Central Coast on Sunday and they could only muster a 1-1 draw despite maintaining 61% possession and firing 20 total shots.

A-League Week 2 Betting Tips

Adelaide United vs Newcastle Jets (Friday 7.50pm AEDT)

Adelaide United were a part of one of the three 1-1 draws in Week 1 of the regular season. Their performance, however, was arguably the most impressive of the weekend as they went blow for blow with Sydney FC, who have proven to be nearly unstoppable over the past few years. They fired eight shots, just one less than Sydney and maintained a healthy 47% possession in the draw.

Newcastle United travelled East to New Zealand to face the Wellington Phoenix and despite controlling the majority of the game, came away with a 2-1 loss. The Jets will be disappointed to start their 2018-19 campaign with a loss after reaching the A-League grand final last season.

Adelaide start as $2.20 favourites here and after their round one performance they look like they could be the prime movers this season. They’ll enjoy another Friday night home game and should get the chocolates over Newcastle here.

TIP: Adelaide to win $2.20

Sydney FC vs Western Sydney (Saturday 7.50pm AEDT)

The Sydney derby headlines this weekend’s A-League action and both sides will be hunting their first win of the season on Saturday night. As we mentioned above, Sydney FC could only muster a 1-1 draw in Adelaide but will welcome the return to Sydney this weekend, even though the game will be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The Western Sydney Wanderers also played out a 1-1 draw after they travelled West to Perth on the weekend. Perth outplayed Western Sydney in the game, maintaining 57% possession and piling on 17 shot attempts but it was Western Sydney winger Roly Bonevacia who capitalised in the 65th minute to help the Wanderers to a draw.

Sydney FC start as favourites here which is justifiable given their dominance in the Sydney Derby over the past few years. Sydney FC have lost just 1 of their last 14 matches against the Wanderers dating back to 2014 and its hard to bet against them here.

Melbourne Victory vs Perth Glory (Sunday 7pm AEDT)

Melbourne Victory got off to a flying start in their game against Melbourne City on Saturday night as new star recruit Keisuke Honda scored the Victories first goal of the season with a fantastic header. However, the Victory were outplayed from that point on, allowing two goals to their cross town rivals to relinquish the lead and come away with a 2-1 loss.

Perth Glory were dominant in their game over the Wanderers but could, once again, only muster a 1-1 draw at home. They’ll be on the road this weekend for their first interstate game, where they were just 3-2-9 last season.

The Glory really struggled away from home last season and it’s hard to see them making a statement against the talented Victory line-up at AAMI Stadium. We think they should be a more competitive outfit then the team that finished in eighth place last year but they should come away from Melbourne with a loss this weekend.

Melbourne Victory to win

$1.80
