Unfortunately, we hit on just one of three tips in last weekend’s EPL preview. The English Premier League continues this weekend with a great slate of games headlined Arsenal taking on Everton on Monday morning. We take a look at the key matchup’s in Week 6 of the EPL season and give our betting tips below.
Watford dropped their first points of the season on the weekend with a 2-1 home loss to Manchester United. They remain in the top four with a 4-0-1 record and should have a good chance to get back on the winners list this weekend with an away game against Fulham, who have recorded just one win so far in their return to the EPL.
Fulham had the tough task of travelling to the Etihad in Week 5 to take on Manchester City. Leroy Sane, David Silva and Raheem Stirling all found the back of the net in the 3-0 win to the Citizens, sending Fulham to 15th on the table. The tough run continues for the Lilywhites over the next few weeks, with games against Watford, Everton and Arsenal to come in their next three.
The last time the two squads met was in the Championship 14-15 season, where Watford took both home and away legs with a 6-0 aggregate. In fact, Fulham haven’t scored a single goal against Watford since 2006. Watford’s record in London isn’t fantastic, however, having lost their last eight in a row in the capital, dating back to a 2-1 win over Arsenal in January 2017. However, Watford are the form side here, regardless of their loss to United last weekend, and should get the job done away from home. Can’t find a reason why they are underdogs, this is value.
Chelsea were fantastic against Cardiff City on the weekend, claiming a 4-1 win to remain perfect in the 2018-19 season and currently sit atop the EPL table. They have a 5-0-0 record and a +10 goal difference. Star midfielder/forward Eden Hazard has been in scintillating form, adding another three goals against Cardiff on the weekend.
West Ham made some big moves in the off-season but for the second year in a row the moves seem to be failing them. They have won just one game so far this season and sit 16th on the table with a 1-0-4 record. They did, however, claim their first win of the season in Week 5 as they defeated Everton at Goodison Park 3-1.
The bookies continue to respect West Ham because they have a solid squad on paper, but their form is hard to look past. A good win on the weekend masks what has been a deplorable start to the season and they have the difficult task of facing off against the top team in the competition, albeit at home, this weekend. West Ham actually have quite a good record against Chelsea, winning three of their last six home games against the Blues, however, the Blues look like a completely different side this season with Hazard playing for his future. Hard to see the Blues dropping this one even away from home.
Arsenal have won their last three games in a row and are surging up the EPL table after a disappointing start to the season that saw them lose their first two games against Manchester City and Chelsea. They have conceded at least one goal in every game they have played this season but have scored at least two in their last four games in a row. The spread of goals for Arsenal is a great sign to start the season. No player has scored more than one goal and the Gunners have already racked up nine individual goal-kickers, proving their depth and flexibility.
Everton have had an inconsistent start to the season to say the least. A respectable draw away from home against the Wolves in Week 1 was backed up by a good win over Southampton in Week 2 but since then the Toffees have squandered plenty of chances. Draws to both Bournemouth and Huddersfield were followed by an extremely disappointing loss to West Ham at home on the weekend. On the bright side, the Toffees are yet to go scoreless in a game this season, however, the fact that they sit 10th on the table with a 1-3-1 record and are yet to play a big six club is worrying. 12 of their remaining 33 games in the Premier League this season will come against those clubs, which will make it extremely difficult to push back up into top 7-8 contention.
The Gunners have won their last three games in a row against Everton, scoring a total of 13 goals in those three games. Only one game in the last seven between these two sides has resulted in less than three total goals and of the 10 combined games that the two teams have played in this season, they have only recorded one clean sheet. I think this is another high scoring match on Monday morning.
