The Growth of E-Sports

August 26th 2016, 11:25am, By: admin

Gaming has always been popular and people have always argued between each other that they were the better gamer, but it was almost impossible to determine as a lot of games didn’t allow for that to be proved due to the restrictions upon them. Then came the development of online gaming, which allowed for players to compete against each other and other players from all around the world.

With the advent of online gaming your mates could no longer say "I'm the best Halo player in the world" without proving it. Now they could play with the actual best players in the world and see if they could cut it.

So with that, online gaming grew in popularity and the next logical step was professional gaming.

To put it simply, as more and more players became involved in the online community of gaming, it has taken on a more competitive approach with teams forming to play at a professional level with large prize money awarded to the top teams.

E-Sports is the term used to describe this online competitive gaming.

E-Sports can take place online but the more competitive tournaments are held live where people will take on each other in front of large crowds and are often televised across ESPN or broadcasted live online.

The popular competitive online games include the League of Legends, Dota 2, Starcraft, Counter strike, Call of Duty, Halo, FIFA, Hearthstone and Heroes of Storm. These games are all played at a high level by professionals and amateurs that take part in tournaments with prizes up for grabs.

Dota 2 E Sports

Just like that, E-Gaming was like any other professional sport in the world and in many cases, even larger - the most recent Dota 2 championship had a prize pool of US$20 million which makes it larger than any of the major golf or tennis tournaments.

And like every other sport in the world, sports bookmakers often open up markets, which allow fans, supporters and punters to place bets on who they believe will win. The markets for these tournaments vary depending on which game is being played and at what stage of the event they are at.

For example, in the early stages of the tournament a team could be playing a best of three series whilst at the later stages and closer to the final they generally play a best of seven series and there are more markets available for those match ups.

There is no doubt E-Sports and betting on E-Sports is here to stay.
