2018-19 EPL: Week 9 Preview & Betting Tips

October 18th 2018, 3:17pm, By: andyrosos

We hit on just one of three bets in last weekend’s EPL betting tips but we’ll look to improve today as we take a look at some of the key matchups in Week of the English Premier League season, which is headlined by a massive clash between Chelsea and Manchester United on Saturday night!

EPL Week 9 Betting Tips

Chelsea vs Manchester United (Saturday 10.30pm AEDT)

Chelsea and Manchester United will face off in the game of the week at Stamford Bridge this Saturday night. Chelsea were fantastic in their Week 8 clash against Southampton, claiming a 3-0 win away from home to move level with Manchester City and Liverpool on top of the table. The run gets a little tougher for the Blues from here, however, with games against Man U, Everton and Tottenham in the next month.

Manchester United will be looking to reset after a shocking start to the season by their lofty standards. They currently have a 4-1-3 record through eight games and bounced back from an extremely disappointing 3-1 loss to West Ham two weeks ago with a decent home win over Newcastle in Week 8. They currently sit just five points behind Arsenal in fourth spot so will be desperate to mount some pressure over the next month of play.

If you can take anything from these two clubs meetings in recent history it’s a high level of defence. Only two of their last ten meetings have produced more than two goals and in seven of those ten, the home side has kept a clean sheet. The Blues have kept clean sheets in four of their eight games already this year and only allowed more than one goal on one occasion, to Arsenal back in Week 2. We think this will certainly be a low scoring game.

Manchester City vs Burnley (Sunday 1am AEDT)

Manchester City will be pretty happy with the 0-0 result away from home against Liverpool on the weekend, especially after having lost the last three in a row to the Reds. They’ll be back at home this weekend against Burnley, who after losing four of their first five games, have bounced back to claim seven points from their last three.

Burnley’s game against Huddersfield on the weekend wasn’t exactly inspiring, however, as they were thoroughly outplayed with the away side maintaining 68% posession and racking up 19 shot attempts. Burnely’s defence has been the one shining light so far this season, they have allowed just three goals in their last four games but really need to find some options going forward.

Manchester City are undefeated in their last five games against Burnley, dating back to a 1-0 win at Turf Moor for Burnley in March of 2015. The home team start as unbackable $1.06 favourites here so we’ll look elsewhere for value. Only once in the last six games has this fixture resulted in over three goals, we think the unders are great value again here.

Arsenal vs Leicester City (Tuesday 6am AEDT)

Arsenal have been one of the surprise packets of the year so far, as much as you can be when you’re one of the big six clubs. Many expected them to fall away in 2018-19 but apart from two respectable losses to Manchester City and Chelsea in weeks one and two, they have been perfecnt. Their defence has been outstanding over the last six games, conceding just five games in that time and they piled on a massive 5-1 win over Fulham on the weekend.

Leicester currently find themselves right around where we predicted them to be at the start of the season, 10th place. They have won four games and lost four games two of their wins have come at home and two have come away from home and the same for their losses, making it extremely hard to get a read on the Foxes coming into this clash.

The Foxes were 3-1 winners over Arsenal last time the two sides met back in May of this season. That game was in Leicester, however, and the Gunners are undefeated against Leicester in their last four at Emirates Stadium. Can't see Arsenal letting this one slip with the form they are in of late.
