July 3rd 2017, 10:31am, By: C.McGregor9

Round 16 of the Super Rugby season see's just the one game being played this weekend on Friday, the 9th of June - the rest of the round is scheduled for July 7th - 8th. We preview the clash between the Hurricanes and the Chiefs below but be sure to check back soon for the rest of our Super Rugby Round 16 Preview and Betting Tips!

Super Rugby Round 16 Betting Tips

NOTE: THE REST OF ROUND 16 WILL BE PLAYED JULY 7th THROUGH 8th - TIPS FOR THOSE GAMES WILL BE ADDED TO THIS ARTICLE PRIOR TO THAT WEEKEND.

Hurricanes vs Chiefs (Friday, June 9th 5.35pm AEST) - Match Complete

The Chiefs snapped a two game losing streak last week to defeat the Waratahs at home. They were forced to come from behind to earn the victory but the result was never in doubt. The side has been able to score points at will but their defence and ill-discipline has proved costly this season. They will need to improve in that area over the next month, starting with this clash. The Chiefs crossed for six tries which included a James Lowe hat-trick.

The Hurricanes were too strong for a Force side that didn’t give up. The Hurricanes only held onto a narrow 12-7 lead with 20 minutes remaining in the match before they clicked into gear and score four tries in the final 18 minutes. We are predicting them to be more switched on for this contest and to earn a narrow victory against their New Zealand conference rivals to set up a blockbuster final round meeting with the Crusaders.

TIP: Hurricanes at the margin (1-12) – $2.88 at Sportsbet

Reds vs Brumbies (Friday 7.45pm AEST)

The Brumbies finals position has been sealed as they have claimed the top of the Australian conference. However, the side will be hoping to build momentum heading into the finals series and that will start with a win this weekend against the Reds.

The Brumbies are on a three game winning streak heading into this one after proving too strong for the Kings, Jaguares and Rebels. Their attack has started to click while their defence has improved drastically. The Brumbies have won 22 of teh 28 meetings between these sides, including six of the eight meetings at Suncorp stadium – with one of those ending in a draw. We are predicting them to be too strong in this one with the history and form favouring them.

TIP: Brumbies at the line (-5.5) – $1.90 at Sportsbet

Western Force vs Rebels (Friday 9.55pm AEST)

Friday night will end with what will be an emotional match between these two sides. The ARU is yet to make its decision on which team will be removed from the competition next year out of either the Force or Rebels. Both clubs will have the mentality that if they earn the victory it will give them a better chance of sticking around next season and we expect it to be a tight battle.

The Force have the home field advantage which means a lot for two reasons. Firstly, the Force have been a lot stronger at home and secondly the Rebels are poor on the road. We ultimately believe that will be the determinate at the end of this contest with the Force earning the narrow victory.

TIP: Force at the margin (1-12) – $2.75 at William Hill

Waratahs vs Jaguares (Saturday 7.45pm AEST)

The Waratahs will be out to end what has been a forgettable season on a high. The side has struggled to just four wins in their 13 games this season. Their defence has left a lot to be desired and they have been on the wrong end of some big hidings. Meanwhile their attack hasn’t been much better.

However, the Waratahs come up against the Jaguares who haven’t been much better. The Jaguares have improved on last season but their inconsistencies are still very apparent and their inability to win on the road has left them out of the finals picture, despite playing in a weaker conference. We are predicting this to be a tight match to start off with but eventually NSW will put the Jaguares to the sword.

TIP: Waratahs at the margin (13+) – $2.05 at William Hill

Bulls vs Kings (Sunday 1.15am AEST)

Who saw that performance coming from the Bulls? Fans would be asking where that has been all season as they carved the Sharks to pieces through the middle and outwide in a brilliant attacking display. It was the Bulls fourth win of the season and one of only a couple of times that they have cracked 30 points in a game. If they bring the attacking mindset into this contest then it will be an interesting game against Kings side which loves to throw the ball around.

The Kings held on for a thrilling 31-30 victory over the Jaguares on the road last week. It is credit to the side that hasn’t gave up all year despite the fact they will most likely be out of the competition next season. The Kings play an attractive style of rugby and while we believe they will be competitive, unfortunately the travel to Argentina and back will prove the difference at the end of the match.

TIP: Bulls at the margin (1-12) – $2.90 at William Hill

Stormers vs Sunwolves (Sunday 3.15am AEST)

The Stormers held on for a narrow 40-34 victory last week in an entertaining match. The Stormers will be questioning their defence after leaking a large amount of points against one of the weaker teams in the competition, albeit one of the sides that love to throw the ball around. They proved to be too strong in the end though and they will earn a bonus point victory this weekend against the worst team in the competition.

That side is of course the Sunwolves, who will enter this match on the back of a 94-7 loss against the Lions. It could be another long night for the Sunwolves, who have struggled on the road and have just one win to their name. However, the Sunwolves were competitive the last time these two sides met and the Stormers are known to take weaker teams lightly.

TIP: Sunwolves at the line (30.5+) – $1.90 at Sportsbet
