2017 Premier League Darts: Week 3 Preview & Betting Tips

February 15th 2017, 2:35pm, By: Bullseye

Week 3 of the Darts Premier League has arrived with the first two weeks of action giving us some good form references to attack the upcoming matches. Already it’s clear who is going to be contending this season, with five players undefeated so far this season, while two players are yet to record a point.

Last week had some mixed results for us. Peter Wright let us down by 0.5 of a leg, while Barney should’ve got the job done against Kim Huybrechts. However our best bet of the night once again landed to maintain our perfect record there.

There’s some real value to be found this week so let’s take a look at our Darts Premier League Week 3 Betting Tips.

Premier League Darts Week 3 Betting Tips

Gary Anderson vs Peter Wright

First up, it’s Gary Anderson against Peter Wright. Anderson followed up his Week 1 draw with MVG by comfortably defeating Jelle Klaasen last week. Anderson looks in good form, and while he wasn’t able to win any of the UK Open Qualifiers over the weekend, he has run deep in most events. Meanwhile ‘Snakebite’ Wright has given us a mixed bag over the last few weeks. He picked up his 2nd UK Open Qualifier title during the week, but last week in the Premier league he was very poor against MVG. It could easily have been a 7-0 drubbing, but Wright picked up a few cheap legs late in the match. He needs to improve his consistency and his ability to compete with the top tier under the pressure of the TV lights. Until he shows that, it’s hard to tip him here. You may like to consider the handicap, but I think there’s enough value in Anderson to win heads-to-head at the $1.65.

TIP: Gary Anderson to win - $1.65 at CrownBet

Adrian Lewis vs James Wade

I think James Wade is a huge price here against Adrian Lewis. On current form, I’d have Wade favourite. Lewis was pretty raggedy again last week, and even though the score line of 7-2 against Dave Chisnall reads as a comfortable victory, it was more because Chisnall was that bad. Lewis averaged 94.40 and hit only one maximum. His checkouts were strong, but that sort of average against most players in the Premier League won’t be enough. I think he’s very vulnerable here against ‘The Machine’. Wade is a model of consistency and he was very good against Phil Taylor last week. Wade probably should’ve won the match, but Taylor escaped with a draw. Wade’s scoring was stronger than ever last week, and his average hovered above 100 for a lot of the match, which is very high for him. Wade reached one of the finals in the UK Open Qualifiers during the week, knocking off Gary Anderson along the way. If he continues that form, then he’ll win this match and there’s great value in his price.

TIP: James Wade to win - $2.66 at CrownBet  (BEST BET)

Phil Taylor vs Raymond van Barneveld

The jury is still out on Phil Taylor and his form for his farewell tour this year. We’ve backed him to do well two weeks in a row, but clearly he’s not quite at the level that he once was. His scoring is down, but yet he still had enough class to stay in the contest and pull out an unlikely draw last week against Wade. Taylor will always be hard to beat, but I fancy Barney will be right in this contest this week. These two titans have a history going back several decades now as they rose onto the scene at similar times. They’ve been through some mighty wars but in recent times, it’s Barney who has found the edge. In their last seven Premier League matches, Barney has four wins and two draws against Taylor’s one victory. Barney also defeated Taylor in the quarter-finals of this year’s World Championship. The Dutchman has no fears against ‘The Power’ and I really like the price of Barney to win once again. He just needs to jump out of the blocks a little quicker as he has been slow to start his last two matches. The price at CrownBet is huge, and over $0.60 more than some other books.

Tip: Raymond van Barneveld to win - $2.94 at CrownBet

Michael van Gerwen vs Jelle Klaasen

This is an intriguing match-up between the two Dutchmen who have publicly expressed their dislike for each other. Without going into details, Klaasen has avoided playing with MVG in the World Cup and the two do not get along at all. Klaasen will be motivated to do well against MVG on the big stage, and he hasn’t been too bad so far this Premier League, but it’s very hard to see him getting near the greatest darts player in the world. I’m sure MVG would love nothing more than to wipe the floor with Klaasen. MVG was sublime at the UK Open Qualifier, with two nine-darters in one match on his way to winning the tournament, before opting out of the last two events for the weekend.

MVG was far too strong for Peter Wright in the Premier League last week, almost whitewashing him with a final score of 7-3 which included a 170 checkout. I think MVG wins this easily, but the price is too short, and the handicap of -4.5 is a touch too risky. The market I don’t mind nibbling is the 180’s line for the match. Both are capable of big scoring, and although they haven’t set the word of fire with maximums in the Premier League, I feel that this could be a high-scoring, entertaining contest.

TIP: van Gerwen vs Klaasen over 6.5 180s - $1.87 at CrownBet

Dave Chisnall vs Kim Huybrechts

The final match of the night is between Dave Chisnall and Kim Huybrechts. Not exactly the highlight of the night, but it will bring the evening to a close regardless. Chizzy has been really poor in the first two weeks and he just looked completely down on himself last week. He should’ve pushed Adrian Lewis but he was beaten without a whimper. One of our pre-season bets was for Chizzy to finish bottom two and if he doesn’t get a point from this match, then he’s well on the way to relegation. In contrast, Huybrechts has a lot of upside and will be pretty focussed here in a very winnable match. Huybrechts pushed Wade to the final leg of their match before pulling a draw against Barney last week. That’s pretty good form and I think he will win here. I’m also keen to play the 180s market. Chizzy can smash them in, and even though Huybrechts has only hit two maximums in each of his first two matches, he’s had twenty-five 140s in that time. If a few of those convert to 180s, then I think they cover the 6.5 line.

TIP: Kim Huybrechts to win - $2.56 at CrownBet
TIP: Chisnall vs Huybrechts over 6.5 180s - $1.66 at Bet365

Multi: Anderson win + Taylor/Barney o10.5 legs + Huybrechts/Chizzy o5.5 180s + MVG win - $3.81 at CrownBet
