The 2017 Moto GP season heads to England this weekend for the annual British GP. Silverstone Circuit, commonly referred to as the ‘Home of British Motor Racing’ will host the event with the main race scheduled to kick off Monday morning at 12.30am AEST.
As we predicted, the Ducati’s were dominant in the last race in Austria, with favourite Andrea Dovizioso taking out the the top place on the podium and tightening the gap between himself and Spaniard Marc Marquez at the top of the championship standings.
Yamaha teammates Maverick Vinales and Valentino Rossi aren’t far behind the pair with Dani Pedrosa in fifth making it an all Spanish-Italian fight for the championship.
While it was the Ducati’s day in Austria, we are predicting the boys in blue to be on song here as the Yamaha’s generally provide good performances in England. It’s a much tighter and more technical course than Austria and doesn’t provide the long straights that would see Ducati dominate.
A Yamaha rider has won the British GP in four of the last seven races while Valentino Rossi has won the race individually six times.
Rossi’s teammate Maverick Vinales has been struggling for form since blazing away to an early championship lead at the start of the season. He has just two podiums in six races since winning the French GP back in May and while we do like Yamaha here, we’ll be siding with Rossi.

Championship leader Marc Marquez has podiumed in the last four races including two wins and is looking absolutely unstoppable at the moment. While we do like Rossi’s chances, a saver bet on Marquez here should be a pretty safe backup.

You’ve got to appreciate the the performance that English rider Cal Crutchlow has been able to give on a 2016 model Honda this year. He has lined himself up for a better ride next year with some great performances including a podium in Argentina at the start of the season. Crutchlow loves his home track and finished 2nd here last season, another podium is on the cards.
