2017-18 A-League: Round 19 Preview & Betting Tips

January 31st 2018, 6:23pm, By: andyrosos

We went just 1 of 3 in last weeks A-League betting tips after having confidence in the Melbourne Victory to upset top of the table Sydney FC backfired. We’ll look to bounce back this weekend as we preview Week 19 of the Hyundai A-League and give our tips below.

A-League Week 19 Betting Tips

Sydney FC vs Wellington Phoenix (Friday 7.50pm AEDT)

Not much more can be said about Sydney FC at the moment. They keep being tested week after week and they just keep winning. You could count on one hand the number of games they have lost over the past two calendar years and they get another great opportunity for a win this Friday night as they take on bottom of the table Wellington Phoenix.

Wellington have won just three games so far this season and while one of them came in a great 3-2 performance away from home against Newcastle two weeks ago, they failed to back it up against Adelaide on the weekend, going down 1-0. Inconsistency has been the theme of the season for Wellington so far, and inconsistent teams don’t do well against the might of Sydney FC.

Sydney are undefeated over their last five games against Wellington, four of them wins. They have scored at least three goals in three of those games, and their last clash back in December of last year resulted in a 4-1 win to Sydney. After teaching the Victory a lesson on the weekend, we think Sydney FC should have what it takes to cover the -1 goal line at home.

TIP: Sydney FC -1 - $1.83 at Sportsbet

Newcastle Jets vs Melbourne Victory (Saturday 5.35pm AEDT)

After a fantastic start to the season, Newcastle have failed to win their last two games, going down 3-2 to Wellington followed by a 2-2 draw with Melbourne City last Friday night. They’ll complete their Melbourne double this weekend as they face the Victory at home on Saturday night. The Jets still sit second on the table, although Melbourne City are breathing down their neck, just four points behind in third place.

The Victory suffered a tough 3-1 loss to Sydney FC at home on the weekend, and will need to get a win on the road in Newcastle on Saturday to solidify their spot in the top four. Bersat Berisha scored the lone goal against Sydney on the weekend to take his season tally to eight in a fairly quiet season for the Kosovo Albanian striker.

Really tough to pick a winner here. The home side is undefeated in the last five matches between these two clubs, but Newcastle arguably come in to the clash in some questionable form. One thing the fixture does usually produce is goals. Four of the last six matches between the two clubs have resulted in three or more goals. Back the overs on total goals here.

TIP: Total goals over 2.5 - $1.64 at Sportsbet

Brisbane Roar vs Melbourne City (Sunday 7pm AEDT)

After the key signing of Massimo Maccarone had Brisbane buzzing in the off-season, many thought that their streak of finishing in the top three would extend to a third year. However, they have been extremely inconsistent throughout the season so far, and currently sit 6th on the A-League table with a 5-4-9 record. They have won their last two games though, and will get a great chance to make a statement against third placed Melbourne City at home this Sunday.

Melbourne City drew with the Jets on the weekend to take their record to 9-3-6 on the season. They currently sit just four points behind Newcastle and will be desperate to move into that 2nd place to secure the first round by in the finals. Scottish import Ross McCormack continues to impress for City with 14 goals through 17 games so far.

Another tough game to call here. Based on record alone, Melbourne City look the team to back. However, Brisbane have been playing some great football over the last few weeks and will have the home field advantage. We like them with a draw no bet safety here.

TIP: Brisbane Roar (draw no bet) - $1.85 at CrownBet
