2017-18 EPL: Week 4 Preview & Betting Tips

September 6th 2017, 2:33pm, By: SundayLeagueShark

Really tough weekend for us in the EPL last week as we hit on just 1 of 5 bets to take what was a healthy season profit of over 6 units down to a .37-unit deficit through three weeks. Watford fought valiantly with 10 men for most of the game but could only hold on for a 0-0 draw against Brighton while Manchester United and Leicester City tallied 33 shots between them but could only muster two of the four needed goals to make for two tough losses.

Interesting week ahead in the EPL as we get some blockbuster matchups in Manchester City taking on Liverpool and Everton hosting Tottenham. We take a look at the key games in Week 4 of the EPL and offer our betting tips below.

EPL Week 4 Betting Tips

Manchester City vs Liverpool (Saturday 9.30pm AEST)

Great matchup to kick off Week 4 at 9.30pm on Saturday night as Manchester City host Liverpool. While they have started the season with two wins and a draw, Manchester haven’t exactly been super convincing, beating the newly promoted Brighton in Week 1 before drawing to Everton and clawing over the line against Bournemouth in their last two games.

A 97th minute winner from Raheem Sterling saw them claim a 2-1 against Bournemouth in what was a very controversial finish and they get a tough matchup against Liverpool this weekend. The Reds ran rampant over Arsenal to the tune of 4-0 as the likely attacking quartet of Firmino, Mane, Salah and Sturridge all slotted goals.

No Kyle Walker for the Citizens this weekend spells trouble as the right back is still suspended from a Week 2 red card. The pacey Liverpool wingers namely Salah should have a field day and we think with the lacklustre performances Man City have put forward so far this season an upset could be on the cards.

TIP: Liverpool double chance (win and draw) - $1.91 at Sportsbet (1 Unit)

Everton vs Tottenham (Sunday 12am AEST)

Both Everton and Tottenham looked good after week one wins but since then have both had one draw and one loss to see them in the middle of the pack at 1-1-1 after three weeks of play. Granted both of their losses came at the hands of Chelsea, however Tottenham in particular can ill afford to be dropping points this early if they want to make a run at another top four berth.

Playing their whole season away from White Heart Lane while it is renovated will be hard for the Spurs, who had a ridiculous 17-2-0 record at home last season. They already have a 0-1-1 record at their new home, Wembley Stadium, so they might prefer travelling to Everton for this clash.

Everton will get their second home game of the year this weekend, after defeating Stoke 1-0 back in Week 1. Wayne Rooney scored one of his two goals for the season that day and has looked great throughout the Toffees three games. However, they are still really missing the firepower that Romelu Lukaku provided and it seems they have taken on a much more defensive mindset this season. Should be a similar type contest to Chelsea vs Everton last weekend so we are happy taking the under again here.

TIP: Total goals UNDER 2.5 - $1.76 at Ladbrokes (2 Units)

Leicester City vs Chelsea (Sunday 12am AEST)

Another great matchup sees Leicester City host Chelsea at 12am on Saturday night. The Foxes tried their counter-attacking hardest against Manchester United on the weekend and while they had some quality chances the firepower of the Red Devils eventually won out as they claimed a 2-0 win.

Chelsea were also impressive, claiming a 2-0 win at home over Everton. It seems their Week 1 blunder against Burnley was indeed a product of the early controversial red card to Gary Cahill and some confidence in the Blues has been restored from our end. Chelsea should control at least 70% possession here with their ridiculous defensive midfield structure and Leicester’s happiness to play counter attack football.

Chelsea will still be without Cahill for this match has he serves the last of his three game ban but could be bolstered by the return of star midfielder Eden Hazard. Hazard has proved his fitness to be named in the Belgian squad for their upcoming World Cup Qualifiers so it’s just a matter of time before he makes his season debut for the Blues. Chelsea have leaked 4 goals through 3 matches this year and while we like them to get the W here, Leicester are usually good for at least one at home.

TIP: Chelsea to win and both teams to score - $3.60 at Sportsbet (1 Unit)

Stoke vs Manchester United (Sunday 2.30am AEST)

While Manchester United only put 2 goals on the board against Leicester on the weekend, their dominance of possession and attacking play was prominent. Romelu Lukaku missed a penalty that should have had the Red Devils up 3-0, but either way, their three wins on the season so far with a combined 10-0 goals for and against has them on top of the table and early favourites for the title.

Stoke have been their defensive selves throughout the opening weeks of the season, allowing just two goals in their three games and capturing one win for a 1-1-1 record. Like it has been for nearly a decade back in the top English league, Stoke’s defence is once again on point but they’ll get a tough test against Manchester United, who have scored the most goals in the league through three matches.

The fact that Manchester United are also one of only two teams not to concede a goal yet is ridiculous. Stoke will have an extremely tough time of it this weekend, and while we think it wont be a blowout like it has been in previous weeks for the Red Devils, Stoke will have limited opportunity to score here.

TIP: Manchester United to win to nil - $2.30 at Sportsbet (1 Unit)

West Ham vs Huddersfield Town (Tuesday 5am AEST)

West Ham and Huddersfield round out Week 3 on Tuesday morning as the Terriers attempt to extend their clean sheet streak to four games. Huddersfield Town have been the surprise packet of the league in their inaugural season in the top flight of English football while West Ham have been the complete opposite.

After picking the Hammers to improve drastically this season with some key signings, they slipped to a 0-0-3 record with a 3-0 loss to Newcastle on the weekend and are on the bottom of the table having conceded 10 goals through their 3 matches, the most of any side.

Huddersfield have been gifted an extremely easy run to open the season, not having to play any of last year’s top seven teams until they meet Tottenham in Week 7. They’ll want to continue to capitalise early in the season to set themselves up to avoid relegation later so we like them to continue their defensive ways and secure at least another draw here.

TIP: Huddersfield Town double chance (win and draw) - $1.91 at Ladbrokes (2 Units)
