2017-18 EPL: Week 14 Preview & Betting Tips

November 28th 2017, 1:17pm, By: andyrosos

Double the EPL action this week as we get a full mid-week round to be played Wednesday and Thursday morning before regular scheduling resumes on the weekend. We preview some of the key games in the mid-week round and give our betting tips below. Make sure to check back later in the week for our preview and tips for the weekend's key games.

EPL Week 14 Betting Tips

Watford vs Manchester United (Wednesday 7am AEST)

After a win over Newcastle on the weekend, Watford have now won their last two games and sit 8th on the table with a 6-3-4 record. They have been one of the higher scoring teams in the league with 22 goals already but have also conceded the most of any team in the top 14, showing their propensity for high scoring games.

Manchester United were lucky winners over Brighton and Hove Albion on the weekend to hold onto their 2nd place on the table with a 9-2-2 record. They are still the most stringent defence in the league, however, allowing just six goals through their 13 games so far.

Watford have lost 12 of their last 13 games against Manchester United in all competitions, however, their only win came in this fixture just last season, showing their improvement throughout the last few years. Manchester United has scored 28 goals so far this season, the second most of any team in the league and with Watford’s leaky defence they should be able to add a few more here. Watford hasn’t kept a clean sheet against Man U since 1986 so we expect the Red Devils to find the net on multiple occasions here.

TIP: Total goals OVER 2.5 - $1.77 at Sportsbet

Chelsea vs Swansea (Thursday 6.45am AEDT)

Chelsea lucky to secure a draw against Liverpool on the weekend after an 85th minute goal to Willian tied the score at 1-1. They’ll welcome the return to Stamford Bridge this weekend as they host Swansea. The Blues currently sit third on the table with an 8-2-3 record and can put pressure on Manchester United with a win here.

Swansea played out a 0-0 draw with Bournemouth on the weekend and have now failed to win in their last ten Premier League games. They’ll be desperate for a result at least here to stay relevant in the relegation race as they currently sit 19th with just 9 points on the season.

Chelsea have lost just one of their last 12 games against Swansea, with that loss coming in Wales. Unlike in the past few years, Swansea hasn’t had a terribly leaky defence so far this season, conceding just 15 goals through their 13 games, which is easily the best mark of any team in the bottom six. However, they have conceded two or more goals in five of their last six trips to Stamford Bridge. We think Chelsea should be able to cover the -1 line at home.

TIP: Chelsea -1 - $1.57 at Ladbrokes

Everton vs West Ham United (Thursday 7am AEDT)

What a fall from grace its been for Everton in season 2017-18. The Toffees had a stellar season last year, finishing 7th and qualifying for the Europa League. They currently sit 16th on the table with a 3-3-7 record and have scored just 13 goals so far. The loss of Romelu Lukaku has been the biggest factor in Everton’s demise as the Toffees have really struggled to find avenues to goal.

There were talks of West Ham being the big improvers in 2017-18 after some key signings but a 2-4-7 record through their opening 13 games suggests otherwise. They also failed to address their goals coring problems, with just 12 goals so far.

Everton have lost just once in their past 18 games against West Ham, but they certainly aren’t the mid table force they have been in previous years. Tough match to call here with both teams in really average form. Everton showed glimpses against Southampton on the weekend and will welcome the return to Goodison Park here, we like them to snap the slump.

TIP: Everton to win - $2.30 at CrownBet

Manchester City vs Southampton (Thursday 7am AEDT)

Southampton were great against Everton on the weekend, claiming a 4-1 win as Charlie Austin knocked in a brace to move his team to tenth on the EPL table with a 4-4-5 record. They’ll get the hardest task in football this week as they travel to Manchester City to take on the unstoppable force that is the Citizens.

Manchester City boast a 12-1-0 record on the season so far, their only blemish coming in a 1-1 draw against Everton back in August. They have scored a ridiculous 42 goals through their opening 13 games, which is 14 more than any other team in the competition as well as maintaining a +34 goal difference. Their domestic league dominance can probably only be matched by that of PSG in world football at the moment and they show no signs of slowing down.

Manchester City are unbeaten in their last seven home games against Southampton in all competitions, but it’s the team’s histories aren’t why Man City will win this match, it’s because of their ridiculous goal scoring form and depth.

TIP: Manchester City 3+ goals - $1.72 at Ladbrokes
