2016-17 A-League: Round 26 Preview & Betting Tips

April 4th 2017, 8:47pm, By: andyrosos

Another good betting performance last week saw us go 3-1-1 over the weekend and moved us to 7-1-2 over our last two weeks of A-League tips. We’ll be looking to continue our winning ways as we preview every game in Round 26 of the 2016-17 A-League Season.

A-League Round 26 Betting Tips

Melbourne City vs Adelaide United (Friday, 7.50pm AEST)

Melbourne City are hanging on to their top 4 spot by a thread after a loss to Sydney last week. Western Sydney are hot on their tails and they’ll need a win over Adelaide here to keep them at bay. Adelaide have been playing some great football of late now that all pressures on their A-League title defence have been lifted. They are well out of the race to make finals but are undefeated in their last four games.

Melbourne City have had the tough task of playing both of the inform Sydney teams away from home over the last two weeks and have succumb to both of them, allowing 6 goals in the process. They’ll get a much needed home game here and given what’s on the line I think they can stand firm and claim 3 points.

TIP: Melbourne City to win - $1.60 at TopBetta

Wellington Phoenix vs Sydney FC (Saturday, 5.35pm AEST)

Like a record on repeat, Sydney keeps having challenges presented to them and they keep delivering week in, week out. Still with just one loss on the season so far, their record is now undeniably one of the most impressive in A-League history and their 11 goals against through 25 games is absolutely unheard of.

They’ll travel to Wellington this week where the Phoenix have been prolific scorers this year, netting 21 goals in 13 games. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sydney kept another clean sheet here but an away win at odds of $1.90 is all the value we need.

TIP: Sydney to win - $1.90 at Sportsbet

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Melbourne Victory (Saturday, 7.50pm AEST)

The Victory have entered cruise control, with just two rounds to go and 6 points up on the Roar, they’ll need just one point to secure their second seed in the finals. Even if they don’t secure the point and Brisbane win their next two games, the Victory’s goal difference is 10 better than Brisbane’s so Kevin Muscat’s men can rest easy until the finals start.

Western Sydney on the other hand will be looking to improve their title chances by improving seeding to potentially 3rd spot. Western Sydney have won their last 3 games and have also found form in the ACL with a great win over FC Seoul a few weeks ago. Wouldn’t be surprised if they can snatch a home victory here.

TIP: Western Sydney (draw no bet) - $1.73 at Unibet

Perth Glory vs Brisbane Roar (Saturday, 10pm AEST)

Both teams will be looking for wins to ward off prospective threats here as Perth and Brisbane go toe to toe in Western Australia late on Saturday night. Perth are winless through their last 4 games and have slipped from 3rd spot to 6th and are now in contention of missing the finals if Wellington can continue to win.

Massive help for the Glory to be playing this one at home and against but Brisbane have been on a tear of late, winning their last 2 games and scoring 6 goals in the process. Jamie Maclaren is coming off a hat trick that saw him move to 3rd on the golden boot table behind Bersat Berisha and Bruno Fornaroli. Extremely tough game to pick, happy staying away from this one.

TIP: No bet

Central Coast Mariners vs Newcastle Jets (Sunday, 5pm AEST)

After both being decimated by a combined total of 7 goals last weekend, Central Coast and Newcastle will battle it out for the wooden spoon on Sunday afternoon. Both have extremely tough games against the Victory and Sydney FC respectively in the final round, so assuming losses there, the loser of this game will walk away with the 2016-17 wooden spoon.

At least it makes them play hard for something. Central Coast have the slight upper hand in my opinion, they have shown valiant performances against the likes of Sydney FC, Melbourne City and Adelaide in the last few weeks and the home field advantage does a lot in these 50-50 games. Happy to take them to avoid the wooden spoon here.

TIP: Central Coast Mariners (draw no bet) - $1.80 at bet365
